The 90-Second Shower Trick To Get More Energy All Day

We spend 4,000 hours singing in the shower (showering, not singing specifically). That’s more than exercising or reading. The real problem is, you’re probably doing it wrong.

In our minds, many of us believe we are waking ourselves up with a refreshing shower, yet how many of us still fall asleep on a stranger’s shoulder during our commute?

The facts

The cold, hard truth (cold being the apt word) is that when taking a hot shower, we are sending ourselves back to sleep. Brainiacs have proven that when we feel the cool air on our skin after stepping out of our morning shower, the sudden decrease in temperate sparks a tranquil state of mind. Whirling us into a sedated mindset. In fact, doctors recommend a hot shower before bed to help aid sleep.

The 90-second shower hack

The hack is simple! Once you’ve finished scrubbing up in your normal routine, crank the nozzle to the coldest temperature and stand under the water for 30 seconds (I’m sorry). Next, retreat to hot water for another 30 seconds before finally turning to cold for a final half a minute (sorry again). Feel free to gasp or scream through the cold blasts as needed.

Why would I do this to myself?

The (albeit painful) experience opens your capillaries, increasing blood circulation, providing stimulation and awakening and energizing your mind and body. Think of hot and cold hydrotherapy, it’s been used all over the world for thousands of years. Now you can do it in the comfort of your own home.

The benefits

As well as boosting blood flow and waking your sleepy face up, the quick trick will also reduce stress by building up your tolerance levels. Help build a stronger immune system by creating more disease-fighting white blood cells. Increase your ability to burn fat by creating energy-burning brown fat cells. As well as, stimulating your sympathetic nervous system, increasing beta-endorphin levels and sending a high level of electric impulses to the brain. Translation: having an anti-depression effect.

But I don’t wanna? You have the whole day to reap the benefits, you go-getter, you. Once you’re over the horror, the benefits are real. Really, give it a go, I dare you.

P.S Victoria Beckham swears by this trick. If you don’t want to listen to me, trust in VB.
