Kylie Jenner isn’t such an unlikely Career Girl, you know. Her family is probably the most watched and judged in the world, yet she has created an empire at just 18 and her lip kits are so coveted they sell out before you even get a chance to add them to your basket.
So what can we learn about business from her? Adweek did a super interesting piece this week asking Kylie the kinds of questions that gave us a chance to see the brain behind the beauty and get a peek at her business and brand values.

How she decides what brands to work with:
“I have to be passionate about the brand and just love it. It has to be a perfect fit. I don’t work with anything that doesn’t work with my brand.”

On her lip kits selling out as soon as they’re in stock:
“We only keep making more and more every single week and it sells out faster and faster. Literally, I pray that it lasts more than 15 minutes every single time. I want people who just feel like buying a kit to be able to go online and buy it.”
In a way, having less product available puts her kits in higher demand. Although it is smart businesswise, Kylie knows that she wants her consumers to be able to access her product all the time – she values her buyers and doesn’t want them to miss out on a product they want.
How she deals with negativity:
“Honestly, I feel like at this point I’ve gotten so numb to it. I still do my thing and people still love me and my lip kits are still selling out and 10,000 people still come to my appearances, so I don’t think it’s about the negative comments, it’s about turning it around and being able to come out on top.”

Kylie turned the negativity around by creating her #IAmMoreThan anti-bullying campaign to show the struggles her fans go through every day that she feels are more important than her fame or criticisms.
On where she sees herself in 5-10 years?
“I think definitely just business and being behind the scenes. Hopefully, I have a family and I’m just running my business and my cosmetics line.”
Kylie has goals to stay in business for a long time, showing that she isn’t just capitalizing on something that came along and landed in her lap. She has a pro-active role in her business too and visits the factory regularly. It’s important to have goals and to know where you want to be in the long term.
