Healthy Girl Daily: 5 Reasons Why HIIT Will Become Your New Favourite Workout

There’s a hot new workout trend transforming bodies across the world and it only takes 20 of your precious minutes to complete! That’s less than it would take to watch your favourite re-run of f.r.i.e.n.d.s or SATC for the 106th time!

Whether you’re looking to get bikini-ready for Summer or just improve your fitness levels, HIIT is taking the world by storm and it really does have amazing results.

So what exactly is HIIT? High intensity interval training is what it stands for, and it’s exactly what it says on the tin. You train hard for a short period of time and then rest for the same.

A simple example of this would be sprinting as fast as you can for 30 seconds, then resting for 30 and repeating. Now the importance of this is in the train hard bit. You really do have to give 110% for those 30 seconds for it to be effective. That doesn’t mean sprinting as fast as Usain Bolt though, we all have different limits and as long as you’re getting your heart rate up high, you should be doing it right.


There are plenty of handy how-to videos online that will guide you through this workout. One of our favourite videos to watch at CGD headquarters is this one featuring Joe Wicks.

Also known as The Body Coach, Wicks has taken Instagram by storm with his quirky Lean in 15 videos where he cooks up a healthy treat in, you guessed it, 15 minutes. Not only is he a fantastic nutritionist and trainer, he’s also a bit of a treat for your eyes, girls.

It’s super efficient. Taking only 20 mins or less means you can slot it in before your morning shower!

Boosts metabolism. Doing a HIIT workout can speed up your metabolism and increase your fat burning ability for up to 48 hours afterwards!

No gym. All you need is your own body to do this workout, no expensive gym memberships or personal trainers. Just you, some willpower and a timer.

Heart health. Getting your heart rate up and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone really gets your blood pumping and keeps your heart happy.

Results. It has fat burning results like no other exercise we know, you can burn more fat in a 20 min workout than an hour long jog!

Have a go at a HIIT workout 3-4 times a week and you’ll be feeling the benefits in no time.
