Some days it can be hard to keep yourself motivated and to simply get through those daily tasks you know, deep down, need to be done. It can be all too tempting to stay on the couch, have another cup of coffee and catch up on your favorite box set. You need to stay on top of things and stay motivated to ensure you reach our goals, it’s easy, you just need to know how. This is how to motivate yourself to get stuff done:
Get up and move
Whether you find yourself sat at your desk or at home staring into space, then you need to shake yourself out of this zombie-like state. The most important thing you can do is to get up and move. Make that cup of coffee, stretch those arms and if doing a thirty-minute workout will help you, then go for it. Exercise is a great mood booster and can help to stimulate ideas and thoughts.
Get off social media
How many hours do you spend on social media a day? One hour, two, perhaps more? Track how many hours are spent on social media and you’ll probably be shocked. Set a time of day when you can scroll through your feeds – and stick to it. So much time is lost when checking your Facebook or Instagram. Turn off those notifications, or even better, delete the apps from your phone.
Track your tasks
It’s a great idea to write down all those tasks that need to be done in your calendar, daily planner or bullet journal. Having a visual reminder of what needs to be done is a great motivator. Use different colors, and tick off or delete tasks as they are completed. Don’t overload yourself, and give yourself a mix of tasks to work on in a day.
Reward those achievements
Start by breaking down those big jobs or goals into smaller ones. Want to shake up your career? Create smaller tasks such as job searching, taking an online course and refreshing your CV. When you complete one, why not give yourself a little treat? You don’t have to spend a lot of money, but choose those things that mean something to you. Why not have that glass of wine tonight, meet your friend for a coffee or buy that new scarf.
Another useful tip on how to motivate yourself to get stuff done is to get yourself organized. Sitting in a cluttered house or at a messy desk with papers, pens and notes everywhere is a sure-fire way to decrease productivity. A messy desk results in a messy head and it’s not the best way to work. So, make sure to tidy that desk and organize your work every day. Doing so is a good way to motivate yourself for the day ahead.
Finally, don’t give up
Do not give up! No matter how tired you are. Break the day into bite-size chunks and take regular breaks. Tell yourself you can do this, take a deep breath and carry on.
