When you were younger, it’s likely that you had a counselor or supervisor helping you navigate your career and your life. You didn’t have to think too hard about what you wanted for the future, not beyond your career anyway. But now it’s not just about your career anymore. Now it’s about your life. Where do you want to live? What do you want to do? What makes you happy? If you really want to make 2020 the best year ever – it’s time to plan your life. Right now.

One of the easiest ways to make a plan for your life is by interviewing yourself. I don’t mean just asking yourself a few easy questions, I mean deep thinking. Think about the end of your life. You’re 100 years old, for example, and someone’s asking you what you’re most proud of achieving.

They want to hear your life story. Start now. Write down your life in reverse order. What did you achieve? Who did you spend time with? What’s the one thing you never thought you’d do, but did? How did you accomplish everything?

Spend some time really thinking about your answers to these questions, because you want to start putting the answers to them in place by 2020.

Now it’s time for a visualization exercise. What does your perfect life look like? Start from the moment you wake up. Where are you waking up? Visualize this perfect life and write down the elements of it, but be realistic. You’re not going to suddenly wake up with a Ferrari, so don’t start.

Make a note of your priorities in life and make sure that they’re aligned. If you’ve been spending too much time on things that aren’t your priority – try to adjust so that by 2020 you can start to live your best life. Give yourself permission to live the life you deserve. Have nice things, travel, and do whatever you want to do – it’s your life and you get to make it fun!
