What do Victoria Beckham, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, Kirsten Dunst and Jared Leto all have in common? Their diet, it turns out.

Apparently keeping your body at a slightly alkaline balance is good for you, and helps you look as good as a celebrity. I’ve never heard of the alkaline diet before so I needed to do some serious research.

What is it?

Basically, the alkaline diet is a way of life, not a fad diet. The principles of it are that you eat food that leave a deposit of alkaline minerals in your body, such as calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium and copper. However, there is little research to support this, and science shows what you eat does not have an effect on your blood’s pH. It’s healthy, though. Many people say despite the shaky science it’s a good food plan to follow because of how healthy it is.

What are the benefits?

A healthy diet like this is good for anti-aging, better skin, energy, effortless fat loss, relieving aches, pains, boosting the immune system, giving you increased focus and helping you feel less cranky due to sugars, fats, and junk foods.

How to do the alkaline diet?

The list of foods you can eat is extensive. Seriously. Garlic green beans? Hell yes. The alkaline diet is basically a celebration of food, so you can eat whatever you want except pasta, wheat, dairy products, meat, fish, coffee, tea, sugar, fizzy drinks, and alcohol. Although of course you could probably deviate and make a couple of exceptions.

Ahah you can’t eat anything actually ! Pretty much only fruit, vegetables, potatoes and rice. I’m sure it’s fine for some people but I would definitely be extremely frustrated

    • Haha, I did think that but they’re all about what you ‘can’ eat, and don’t tend to talk about how it’s similar to a vegan diet, I’m actually considering giving it a go though! xx

Lol that’s not much of a celebration at all.

There are great and easy alkaline additions you can make to your diet. I tend to add those into my daily routine (and still stick to my normal diet). Drink a mug of hot water & lemon juice in the morning. Substitute rice/bread with cauliflower etc. add apple cider vinegar to dressings etc.
