No matter how beautiful, talented and popular someone may be it doesn’t mean they can’t still struggle with their confidence. Even Kate Winslet, an Oscar award-winning actress, has opened up in the past about her lack of self-esteem! Low confidence doesn’t just refer to how you feel about your looks, it can stem from pretty much anything – be it your work performance, a personality trait or issues in a relationship. Follow these tips to instantly appear more confident, even if your insides are doing summersaults. And don’t forget to look the part, with these 5 power outfits.

#1 Talk Slowly and Clearly

I naturally talk incredibly fast, something which gets worse when I’m nervous. So public speaking can often leave the audience completely clueless to what I am talking about! Oops. I am gradually teaching myself to slow down and breathe. It sounds silly but taking a second to think about what you are saying, makes you feel much more at ease and will no doubt help you relax. Here’s how to relax in just 60 seconds!

#2 Stand a little taller

How often do you find yourself with your arms crossed or hidden in your pockets when faced with an uncomfortable situation? I know I do, and that’s because it’s natural to want to put up barriers rather than feeling too exposed. Instead, try to stand up taller, keep those shoulders relaxed and look straight ahead to seem instantly more confident!

#3 Know that it’s not just you

In all honesty, we spend far too much time worrying about what people think of us. We all do it because it’s a part of human nature. Presentations, public speaking, meeting new people – these are things that frighten most people. It’s easy to become wrapped up in your own thoughts and anxieties, but simply reminding yourself that everyone feels the same way is very comforting.

#4 Ask Questions

Networking events are not always fun, especially if you aren’t the most talkative of the bunch. Instead of fretting about what you have to say to people, just ask the questions! It will show your interest, take the pressure off you and make someone else do all the talking! For all those introverts, we’ve got more advice on how to network like a pro.

#5 Smile

Smiling is the best way to instantly appear more confident. All you may want to do is bury your head in your hands, but no-one else has to know… So, put on your best smile and go for it! Never let those nerves stop you from reaching your goals! If you need more convincing that positivity is the key to success, click here!

Talking slowly is something that they tell you to do in voice coaching and it really does work. I have no confidence when it comes to speaking yet this tip enabled me to do two podcast shows for a year and a half. http://www.99percentlifestyle.com/
