7 Things Happy People Do Differently

What’s the secret of being happy? It’s a question that we all go in search of to achieve absolute daily greatness. And who can really blame us?

But in order to know how to be happier, we need to first understand what happiness means to us.

But if you look at successful people they tend to be happy, not because they’re rich and now live a comfortable life, but it’s because they know what they want from it.

Regardless of what they already have, they teach us that happiness can easily be attained by being happy with what we have, rather than what we don’t.

So, if you’re looking to transform your life and make the necessary steps towards happiness then take a look at the habits of happy people and see what you need to be doing differently:

1. They Start The Day Inspired

How do you expect to have a successful, happy day if you don’t start the day with that feeling?

It’s essential that you not only start the day inspired but hold on to that same inspiration throughout the day. Use your goals and dreams to inspire you! And the easiest way to do this is by writing down something inspirational to remind you whenever you need it.

The Getting Things Done Planner lets you do exactly this. This daily planner prompts you to fill in a quote of the day at the top of your daily page to keep you on track.

That quote stays with you all day, pushing you to be you and keep you positive. Get it here.

2. Their Voice Is Stronger Than Their Inner Voice

We all have that inner voice that usually screams profanities at us, or sometimes, tells us that we’re not good enough.

Label this voice your insecure voice and don’t give it any more attention than it needs to have.

Instead, make your voice louder and stronger. Start telling yourself that you can, because it’s true and the voice inside your head is not.

We can’t help but put ourselves down sometimes when we’ve done something wrong, but combat that by bouncing back.

You can shut down this voice by replacing your thoughts, instead, say to yourself positive things that will pick you up and overcome the bad thoughts. Just repeat positive messages to yourself over and over.

3. They Know The Importance of Letting Go

Happy people are happy because they don’t let anything hold them back. Everyone in life has their own struggles and the things that weigh them down.

But, it’s how you react to these things that determine the outcome of these events. You can choose to let something get to you and eat you up all day long. OR, you can make the choice to let it go and move on.

The sooner you do that, the better you will feel. Don’t spend longer than twenty minutes wallowing in something, as a rule, to live by. Instead, dust yourself off and get back out there stronger than before.

4. They Say YES

How many things did you say yes to this week? And saying yes to work doesn’t count, because, well, you obviously have to!

And with a busy work week, we understand that it’s hard to say yes to things outside of work when you’d rather be at home and relaxed.

But that’s no way to live. Happy people are active people. They always go out and try new things, or just go out and meet up with friends.

And you should do the same! Be inspired to go out, download apps like Fever that will show you the coolest things to do in your city without breaking the bank! Download it here.

5. They’re There For Others

Have you ever helped somebody out and felt really good afterward? That’s because helping people is a natural happiness booster.

You feel like you’ve done some valuable for somebody else, and that’s all you need to do to start living a happier life by being a better person.

Remember, you get from this world what you put into it…

6. Positivity Is Their Life

Happy people’s focus is all about positivity. And some people are just born more positive than others, but that’s OK.

Because you can train yourself to be positive. It’s going to be a battle, but it’s not one that you can’t win.

To really take this to the next level, you can download an app called Happify, it’s really good for tackling stress and worry as well as promoting happy, positive thoughts.

The app helps you to do this by playing scientific games, allowing you to track your progress and even meditate! Download it here.

7. They Live Their Dream

Happy people tend to be happier because they know exactly what they want from life. It’s their goal, their dream and working towards it makes them happy.

Do you get that? Does your career make you happy?

We know, for one, that we feel such a reward when our hard work pays off and we progress.

Every day for us is like living a dream, it’s our dream and we’re lucky that we can live it. So, if you want to be happier, all you need to do is go after your dream and live it.

Stop waiting around, the time is now, do everything you want to do and you’ll feel so much better for it.

  1. I just lost my brother unexpectedly 3 days ago and since I haven’t gotten out of bed. I saw this article and I immediately opened it because I needed to know how I can pull myself out of this emotional rollercoaster and something I think will be helpful will be taking note of my feelings and writing them down as mentioned in no.1 but overall I guess this article just gave a quick glimpse that things will get better but I will have to chance my habits in order to bring happiness back into my life….so thank you!

  2. Stacey, I’m so sorry for your loss. Grief is so hard. I unexpectedly lost my cat last week, and although I know losing a brother is incomparably worse, I just wanted to give you a quick tip in case you haven’t seen it yet – this article (https://www.careergirldaily.com/get-it-together/) helped me get out of bed as well. It’s about getting over a career setback, but helps if you put it in terms of grief as well.

  3. Hi Stacey, I’m very, very sorry for your loss. But whilst it may seem like dark days now, they will not be dark forever.

I would definitely recommend you to get a journal and just write everything down. It’s really helped me, no matter what emotion I have to express it and get it written down on paper. Somehow, the energy just shifts to the page and I feel much better once I can’t write anymore.

What I like to do as well is read over the pages I’ve written, it allows me to see and determine where I am now, which is often in a better place than I originally was. Writing will be good for your soul, even if you end up writing about something that doesn’t even relate, like green trees for example.

You will definitely have to work hard and fight emotions to take on these habits that will pull you through. But know that you’re not alone, especially in your grief. Take it day by day – some days will be good, some days will be bad – so just make sure you prepare ahead for the days that won’t be as good.

Find, concentrate and focus on the things that bring you joy – it might even help you to focus on what gave your brother joy too, that way you can feel close to him at all times.

  4. Hi Carmen,

I couldn’t agree more, everything does happen for a reason, so use that as actionable points to go after what you deserve!
