Wondered what it takes to become a super successful blogger? Find out the secrets to Fleur de Force’s massive success here.
Ever wanted to be a super successful vlogger with hundreds of thousands of viewers? Or what it’s like to sit down and make a living doing what you love? We sat down for a chat with YouTube superstar Fleur de Force to find out what it takes to be successful in the online world.
How did you come up with your YouTube name?

I was playing around with name ideas and thought ‘Fleur de Jour’ would be cool…that was taken so ‘Fleur De Force’ popped into my head. It wasn’t taken so I used that and didn’t think too much about it (I didn’t realize it would become anything more than a YouTube username at the time!) In hindsight I’m really glad I went with De Force and not De Jour – I hadn’t really made the connection with Belle du Jour at the time!
What inspired you to start vlogging?
I was totally addicted to and inspired by other vloggers and bloggers sharing their thoughts and ideas online. I had been watching them and engaging with the community in the comments for about six months but I never had the confidence to start making my own content until I showed my mum a video review one day – she loved it and encouraged me to put up my own content and get more involved, so I started my channel the next day!
What are your career tips for wannabee bloggers or vloggers?
Always to be yourself and have fun. Try not to copy what everyone else is doing, as being a little bit different is what makes you special and unique. Remember that success doesn’t happen overnight and it takes time and hard work to build an audience. Also, remember to put your success into perspective!
How do you balance your busy work life with your home-life?
Take each day as it comes! Some months I am super busy, travelling a lot and not spending as much time at home as I would like, but I adore my work and I wouldn’t have it any other way. You just have to make an extra effort with your friends and family when you do get to see them and the great thing about YouTube is that you can make your own hours to a certain extent. Sometimes I’ll take a day off to see friends I haven’t seen in ages, then work in the evening or at the weekend!
So you’ve got a new book coming out! How excited are you about that and could you tell us any more about it?
Yes! I’m SO excited to share it with everyone in July – It seems like it’s been in the works for so long (over a year now!) I like to think of it as a big sister to my first book! It’s called ‘The Luxe Life’ and is a lifestyle guide focussed on special occasions, entertaining at home, home DIY, gifting etc. It’s been such a passion project for me so I can’t wait to see what my followers think!

Do you have any networking tips for networking at press events or meeting new people?
I’m naturally quite shy so I’ve had to make a big effort to overcome that, and was terrible in the early days! My number one tip is not to drink too much (It’s good to have one drink if you are feeling very nervous, but stick to one!) Wear heels (they make me feel more confident) and try not to simply stick to people you already know and if, like me, you suffer from resting b**ch face, try to smile as much as possible (without looking crazy – a natural smile!)
What are the beauty products you simply couldn’t live without?
Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua foundation, YSL Effet Faux Cils Mascara and Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeliner!
Do you use a vision board or a list to project where you’re heading?
I have a list of goals I want to achieve each year that I keep adding to as I go. I think writing down your goals helps you to track your progress and keep focused and working towards achieving them.
