The Best Christmas Movies On Netflix To Get You In The Festive Spirit

It still feels too early to actually celebrate Christmas, and even though I’ve already put up the tree, I still haven’t listened to my cheesy Christmas music playlist fully. But when you’ve worked so hard for the past year, it is nice to end the year on a high, feeling festive and enjoying all the tackier parts of Christmas festivities.

That’s why I love Christmas movies, they just get you into the seasonal feeling. With that in mind, here are a few of our favorites on Netflix right now. I dare you not to go home and watch at least one of them tonight!

Miracle on 34th Street .

Dorey Walker is the special events director at Cole’s, and after firing her department store Santa for being drunk on the job, she needs a replacement. The man she finds goes by Kris Kringle and seems suspiciously a lot like Santa. At least, all the children besides her own daughter think so. One night, he is arrested for assaulting the original department street Santa. But he was set up. Dorey must take Kris’s case to court and prove that Santa not only exists but that he is the real one.

Christmas with the Kranks .

Luther and Nora Krank decide to boycott Christmas after their daughter Blair leaves them for a Peace Corps assignment in Peru. Their decision, however, makes them social outcasts. Luther’s co-workers think he’s become Scrooge, and even the police are annoyed that they won’t be buying their yearly seasonal calendar. Their neighbor, Vic, who’s the unelected leader of the street, organizes a campaign to force the Kranks to decorate their home, hijinks ensue as the Kranks defend their right not to celebrate Christmas. However, after all their efforts, their daughter decides to come home – with a fiancé in tow!

Love Actually .

One of my favorite Christmas movies! It follows a group of people and their quest for love, from those who have lost love, to those who have found it in unlikely places. Betrayal, hatred, hilarity and romance. What’s not to like?

While you were sleeping .

Lucy is a fare token collector for the Chicago Transit Authority. She’s lonely, but believes she has already met the one. She has a crush on a handsome commuter named Peter Callaghan. On Christmas Day, she rescues him from being hit by a train. Unfortunately, he’s in a coma, and the hospital staff mistakenly believe that she is his fiancée. She goes along with it for a few reasons, the main one being that she ends up being part of the family and does not want to hurt them. But when she meets Peter’s suspicious younger brother Jack and spends time with him. She realizes she’s in a lot deeper than she thought.

Who doesn’t love drama and romance in the holiday season? Are you watching any of these this weekend?

I’m a little embarrassed to say I’ve never watched any on this list! I also find myself watching Home Alone during Christmas instead – year after year!

The first 2 I saw them but others are really good idea. I think this was a good suggestion for an article.

I have to recommend the original Miracle on 34th Street from 1947 in addition to the one you listed here! (Though neither of them is available on Netflix in Canada, unfortunately. Break out the old Christmas VHS tapes…)
