We love traveling and citytrips with a passion. Last week week CGD was in Milan and this week we are in wonderful Amsterdam! The city that reminds most people of drugs and the red light district, but has so much more to offer than these two things! CGD takes you through the must-do’s and must-see’s in this amazing city!
#1 – King’s day
Mark the 27th of April in your agenda because King’s day is definitely the event of the year! With festival all around Amsterdam where world’s best DJ’s are performing, street parties everywhere. It is the birthday of our King and Dutch people always make sure to celebrate this properly! Make sure you arrange your hotel, plane- and festival tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
#2 – Shopping in ‘The nine little streets’
The cutest streets in Amsterdam full of cozy cafes, restaurants, vintage shops and small boutiques. Ideal if you are looking for original, divers and a unique selections of stores all together. The ‘nine little streets’ straddle the more famous Keizersgracht, Prinsengracht and Heerengracht in Amsterdam’s Central Canal Ring:
- Reestraat – Hartenstraat – Gasthuismolensteeg
- Berenstraat – Wolvenstraat – Oude Spiegelstraat
- Runstraat – Huidenstraat – Wijde Heisteeg
#3 – De Jordaan
The favorite area for most students, artists and young professionals. The Jordaan is the perfect area for a sunny day stroll through Amsterdam. This area is full of galleries, bars, restaurants, cafes and vintage stores. The cozy streets in this bohemian-yuppie neighborhood are definitely worth a visit.
#4 -Pieter Cornelisz Hooftstraat
Amsterdam’s very-own ‘Golden Square’. If you feel like spending some serious money this is the street you where you need to be. All the high-end brands are gathered here and if you are lucky, you might spot some famous Dutchies shopping their hearts out.
#5 – Canal Cruise
Amsterdam is famous for its canals, so of course a canal cruise should be part of you agenda. Discover this beautiful city from the water and enjoy the historic stories the guide will tell during this trip.
#6 – Dam Square
Dam Square is a beautiful square on its own, but the shops and the beauty of the Krasnapolsky Hotel around it, make this square even more worth visiting. Dutch department store ‘De Bijenkorf’ also boarders Dam Square and is a 21,000 square metres shop heaven for fashion, cosmetics, homeware, accessories, media and travel products.
#7 – Het Vondelpark
Sunny day in Amsterdam? ‘Het Vondelpark’ is the place for a picnic, BBQ or just a nice ‘wine in the park’ afternoon with your friends.
#8 – Leidseplein
End your day with some drinks and good food at Leidseplein after a long day of shopping and sight-seeing. Especially on a sunny day, this square is the best way to relax and enjoy the Amsterdam life that passes you by.
#9 – Rent-A-Bike
Dutch people and their bikes are inseparable! There are more bikes than people in the Netherlands and if you want to go around Amsterdam quick and easy, the bike is the best option. Bike through the scenic routes of the Vondelpark, Damsquare and the Jordaan to discover these beautiful parts of Amsterdam.
Thanks for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbor were just preparing to do some research about this. We got a grab a book from our local library but I think I learned more clear from this post. I am very glad to see such fantastic information being shared freely out there.
