Celebrities are just like the rest of the world at the end of the day and that’s abundantly clear when you read stories of celebs getting fired! From Megan Fox to Ryan Gosling to Sarah Jessica Parker. The list goes on.
We’ve looked at some famous cases of celebrities getting fired and why:
Megan Fox
Fox outrageously compared director Michael Bay (Transformers movies) to Hitler in an interview. Unsurprisingly, producer Steven Spielberg demanded Fox got fired from the next film! She was replaced by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Transformers 3.
“Steven [Spielberg] said, ‘Fire her right now.” ~ Michael Bay on Megan Fox getting fired from Transformers
It didn’t stop her from working though, her reps told the press that it was her decision and she went on to other projects where she didn’t have such a clash with the team.
Sarah Jessica Parker
Recently, the actress revealed that she’d been fired from two movies! One was the animation Antz, where she was replaced by Sharon Stone. The second was the 2004 movie Home On The Range. The latter told her they were taking the film “in a different direction”, in other words, a direction without her.
“What was upsetting was they even called me the week before they fired me, they called me to tell me how great I was. Which I felt, was like a set-up, but I think they meant it at that time.” ~ Sarah Jessica Parker on getting fired from Antz.
Ryan Gosling
The Hollywood dreamboat was originally cast to play Susie Salmon’s dad in The Lovely Bones. He gained 60 lbs for the film (apparently by eating a ton of ice cream!). But when he turned up for the first day of filming, director Peter Jackson was unimpressed with his new look and cast the more chiseled Mark Wahlberg instead…
“We had a different idea of how the character should look. I really believed he should be 210 pounds.” ~ Ryan Gosling on getting fired from The Lovely Bones
Anna Hathaway
Oscar winner Anne Hathaway was the original lead in Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up! But when it came to the birthing scene, she took issue with the explicitness and the fact that it would actually be showing another women’s vagina. Apatow decided to drop her from the movie and replaced her with Katherine Heigl instead.
“[The film] was going to show a vagina – not mine, but somebody else’s. And I didn’t believe that it was actually necessary to the story.” ~ Anne Hathaway on getting fired from Knocked Up
Anna Wintour
Anna Wintour was fired from a magazine job, which to some would be the end of the world, but for Anna was just a stepping stone towards success.
“I recommend that you all get fired. It’s a great learning experience.” ~ Anna Wintour on being let go from American Harper’s Bazaar.
In each case, they bounced back from failure and managed to turn it around and carry on with their career. So being fired isn’t the worst thing that can happen! As long as it’s for a reason that you stand by.
