How I Started On My Dream Career Path With No Work Experience

tumblr_nj8ajig1251r9y3mio1_500It wasn’t too long ago that I was thinking about giving up photography and design. A degree from London College of Communication didn’t guarantee me a job in the industry, and often it’s not just about your work, it’s about knowing the right people – connections are a big must.

Needless to say, I think that the lack of opportunities were partly my fault, I feel that I didn’t really try my best during University. So I graduated last year without any work experience or a strong portfolio under my belt. It was a struggle after to get work in the creative industry, I found myself constantly rejected, job after job. It made me question myself as a designer, thinking maybe my work wasn’t good enough – or maybe it was me, maybe I wasn’t good enough. Eventually I gave up applying for creative jobs and settled for retail just so that I could earn money and pay the bills. But working in retail made me realise that I didn’t want to do this for the rest of my life. I wanted to do something I love, something that I’m passionate about.

And so I decided to give art another shot. A few months ago I landed an internship with a start-up company called Babytronic. There I was a production intern where I helped with social media posts and assisted in production. As I was interning for Babytronic I was inspired enough to create new projects and work on my portfolio. But I was eager for more relevant experience. I love photography, and I definitely want to make a living out of it. Luckily, there’s Instagram. While I was browsing, I came across Career Girl Daily’s Instagram account and I must say I was very impressed. I clicked on the link on their bio, and found that they were looking for a photography intern. And so here I am.

I am now in charge of product photography for Career Girl Daily. I am so thrilled to be working with such an extremely hard working, passionate set of young women, who exemplify the meaning of “work hard, play hard”. I look forward to being a part of and contributing to the success of this team! Now more than ever I am sure that I will achieve my dream job one day, it’s just a matter of trying, and trying again. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy but I know it’s going to be worth it!

Feel free to check out my work and my Instagram account.
