Every Ambitious Girl Needs These 10 Rules For Brilliant Women

10 rules for brilliant women

If you haven’t heard of Tara Mohr, she’s about to become one of your favorite virtual mentors: she’s an expert on women’s leadership and well-being, a career coach, an author, a speaker, a Stanford graduate and Yale MBA, and a prolific contributor to publications like the Huffington Post, Harvard Business Review and GOOP. (And you thought you were busy, huh?) She has created 10 rules for brilliant women that we could all learn from.

Stop waiting to get noticed

Through her coaching, Tara realized that many women were more attuned to the ways that they aren’t qualified than to the ways that they are. They are waiting for someone to discover them, promote them, or validate them, rather than stepping in to ask for bigger roles and more responsibility.

Start building the life you want

This hesitant, passive approach is holding women back, and inspired Tara to write her now famous ’10 Rules for Brilliant Women,’ a list of principles for women that are refreshingly blunt, and incredibly motivating – our favorites are “Be an arrogant idiot,” “Get a thick skin,” and “Don’t wait for your Oscar.”

One of Tara’s main points is that no one else is going to build the life you want for you, which is why it’s so important to own the journey and support yourself along the way. Her 10 Rules provide a path for how to do just that, and we can’t get enough of them!

Ignore criticism and don’t wait for praise

Tara encourages women to ignore critics, all our favourite leaders and inspiring women have legions of critics, so it’s best to sweep the negativity under the rug and get on with it. There’s no need to be universally liked. She also advises that we don’t wait for praise, either, and instead steep boldly into your role and give yourself the praise you need.

Read the full list here, and when you’re finished let us know what your favorite rules were and how you’ll use them in your career!
