How To Stay Healthy If You Never Have Time For The Gym

You’re already getting up at the crack of dawn, and promising to hit the gym after work, let’s face it, is a lie. You may be full of energy in the morning, but when five o clock arrives that same motivation is nowhere to be found! So, what can the Career Girl do to stay healthy when she has no time for her boyfriend let alone for the gym? Calm down ladies, as always we have the answer and we would never keep it from you!

1. Workout from home

Now I know this isn’t a genius idea, but it’s one that works. You can fit in that half an hour whenever you feel like it, and you don’t even have to leave the house. I hate going to the gym anyway, surrounded by people with amazing bodies when I’m only beginning to train mine. So trade the Netflix for a fitness video for half an hour, or try the Nike Training Club app for 30 minutes. You’ll thank us.

2. Watch TV and…

One of my lazy, but effective tricks is being active and moving around whilst I’m watching TV. Lifting some weights in your hands, doing leg lifts, squats, you name it…Whatever you’re comfortable with! You can bust a move even when you’re watching TV, and not feel like you’re doing anything at all!

3. Make your commute work

Another one of my guilty secrets is doing extra bits on my commute, whilst sitting on the train I like to contract my muscles for ten seconds all over my body. Move your body and even create a bouncier walk that will burn extra calories! Even when I’m standing still I subtly bounce on my heels.

4. Dinner dance

Instead of staring into the oven, or watching your food boil – be active instead. I always listen to music when I’m cooking to motivate and lighten the mood. I can’t help but dance, and as I used to dance when I was younger I use these moments to move my body and have fun doing it!

5. Make working out a thing

Catching up with your friends with some wine? Trade it for a walk – or even a jog. Get a friend involved, and do something together. I need my girl pals, and we’re always talking about what guys are letting us down. So, we’ve combined this with fitness, we’re shedding the stress through talking and working out! Plus being out in the open will only do wonders for your quality of life!

6. Clean

Blast the music yet again, get your gloves on and treat today’s chores as a workout! Get in the zone and increase your heart rate while you’re scrubbing and hoovering! Do the whole house and feel not only lifted afterward but healthier, too!

7. Take the stairs

I’m always guilty of waiting for a lift or taking an escalator. Take the stairs, or even run up them. You can even take two at a time for extra effects. You’ll be burning calories, toning your legs and increasing your heart rate, which is only a good thing!

  1. These are all great tips! I’ve been trying to walk to school more instead of taking the bus and I try to stay standing when reading or doing work instead of sitting.

  2. Love these, especially making working out a “thing”. We always default to catching up with friends over food or drinks, when there are so many healthier options to choose from!

  3. I am so keen on getting fit with out starting a gym membership due to saving for a travelling trip and a house, I always take the stairs, even if its an escalator I will walk up them. I need to motivate myself more to go and follow videos online for 30 mins a day, but I always come up with an excuse and I feel the days always fly away! Definitely taking these tips up though

  4. Why not try starting this Monday? There’s an article coming out on the 10th about why Monday is a great day to start anything you’ve been pushing back! On days I can’t be bothered to go to the gym, I just YouTube some workout videos, pull out the yoga mat and weights and get started. I’m always reluctant to start, but I actually really enjoy it once I’ve started! Start easy, maybe start with 15 minutes? Theres no rush! Tell us how you do x

  5. Yes! I love going to the gym with my gal pals. But we’re guilty of eating out a lot together too! We eat together and then burn off together! Win win in my books!

  6. Why not take a break from any studying/revision/essays with a workout in between. Exercise is actually great for the brain. Exercising increases your heart rate making the blood circulate faster. This then helps the brain to get more oxygen which increases productivity whilst reducing tiredness and stress. But when I was a student, I would use any excuse to take breaks from my essays haha!

  7. I love the tips. Gonna try the Nike Training Club App :)
