Nude lips are the perfect accessory for career girls. Wear them at work with just a hint of make-up and you look professional and chic. Pair it with a smoky eye, and you’re glam and ready for a fun night out after a long day’s work.
But finding the perfect nude lipstick for your skin tone is tricky. Go too light, and you resemble a zombie. Too dark, and your lips look muddy. The key is to choose a shade that complements your undertone. Don’t know what yours is? Look at your veins. If they look green, choose warmer tones, such as peachy pinks and browns. If they appear blue, opt for cooler hues, like pinks. Can’t tell? You’re likely neutral toned, and almost every colour will suit you.
So easy? Not really. There are a few more things you need to know to pick the perfect nude lipstick for your skin colour. Here’s a quick guide to help you:
#1. Porcelain skin
If you have milky, porcelain skin, stay away from beige colors. They’ll make you look sick and washed out. Instead, opt for a sheer and soft pink shade, like Burberry Kisses in Nude Pink. It’s the perfect “my-lips-but-better” shade.
#2. Fair skin with warm undertones
You can go either pink or beige. Or better yet, opt for a pinkish beige hue, like Tom Ford Lip Color in Blush Nude. Pigmented and shiny, it’ll warm up your complexion, making you look radiant and healthy.
#3. Medium skin tone
Peachy-toned hues work best for medium skin tones. They add some warmth to the complexion, and prevent you from looking like a zombie. Nars Audacious Lipstick in Raquel fits the bill perfectly.
#4. Olive skin with warm undertones
Choose a caramel-toned shade that’s just slightly darker than your skin colour. Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Satisfaction is perfect. One swipe and you’re good to go.
#5. Olive skin with cool undertones
Look for a sheer, pink-based hue, like Dior Addict Lipstick in Tulle 214. It enhances the natural colour of your skintone, and gives you a healthy glow.
#6. Dark skin
Opt for a sheer chocolate brown with a shimmery or glossy finish. MAC Lipstick in Touch is a popular choice. It brightens the face and looks very natural.
