Fly Away Friday: 4 Forgotten Or Unknown Holiday Destinations

Going on holiday is probably one of the best things to do in this world. With almost 200 beautiful countries and even more amazing cultures, you can never be bored.

There are a lot of destinations that are really popular under young professionals. I bet we all know a person who goes to Spain, France, Italy, Turkey, Thailand, Dubai, Australia or somewhere in Africa for a safari this year, and because of all the pretty pictures and wild stories, people often pick a destination that is already been done by someone they know.

Nothing wrong with that of course, but once you have done all those beautiful well-known destinations, or if you want something completely different already, there is a whole list with forgotten or even unknown destinations that are often underrated but are definitely worth a visit.

#1 – Sao Tome & Principe

Unfortunately, I have to admit, before writing this article I never heard of this country. Most people say that Sao Tome & Principe is a ”slice of Caribbean just off the African coast”. These 2 islands have miles of perfect white beaches, a crystal blue sea and an absolute lush rainforest. Enjoy your morning with fresh fruit on the amazing beaches. The best thing is, it is not touristic at all, so you really get a chance to discover the culture of these beautiful islands.

#2 – Suriname

If you are Dutch there is no way you never heard of Suriname, but most other countries in the world don’t know this country exists. Suriname (capital: Paramaribo) is a country at the top of South-America and is a former Dutch colony that is transformed in an ethnic melting pot. It is a country where the indigenous culture is mixed with Creole, Chinese, Indian, Dutch and Indonesian influences. Because of all these cultures the food is absolutely amazing. The biggest part of the country is a beautiful rainforest, which allows you to go to a real nature spa resort and enjoy all the beautiful things that mother earth has to offer.

#3 – Comoros

Maybe you recognize it from your history classes. Comoros is another lush island, neighbouring the Seychelles. This former French colony has world’s biggest lagoon that is definitely worth a visit.

#4 – Niue

Marcus Roberts

This beautiful island sees very few visitors and it is therefore that they only have two inbound flights a week. It doesn’t have a lot of beaches but there are some amazing cave explorations. So if you would like to have adventurous and less touristic holiday, this is the place to be.
