The long days of January have finally come to an end. It’s been a month of fitness goals, ditching the booze and just generally doing all that you can to become a better version of yourself. You’ve given it your all, but even you being the superwoman that you are couldn’t dodge that dreaded winter cold. Don’t fear! Follows these 5 tips and you will be back to fighting fit within no time at all.

1. Hot shower

According to Professor Ron Eccles from the Common Cold Centre at Cardiff University, a hot shower is a perfect way to start your day when you wake up full of a cold. The heat will help soothe those aching limbs and the steam can help clear your blocked sinuses. The fresh after-shower feeling is bound to make you feel better too!

2. Fuel up

Often when you feel unwell you lose your appetite, but eating (the right things!) can help you mend much quicker. It’s all about hearty recipes! So fuel up on meals packed full of goodness. Chicken soup, vegetables and anything rich in vitamins (especially vitamin C) will help fight those germs.

3. Drink all the tea

Compliment this with plenty of herbal teas and you have the ultimate recipe to cure a cold. The warm drink will help sooth any sores, eliminate chills and have the added benefit of letting your body relax. Try a green tea, lemon, and ginger or adding honey to your English Breakfast tea to get the real benefits.

4. Get some air

Whilst you might want to stay bed-bound, fresh air will do you the world of good if you’re blocked up. Go for a nice slow walk, cozy up on a park bench or take your tea into the garden. Make sure you aren’t pushing yourself, but try to be a little bit active if you can. It might be the last thing you want to do, but it will perk you up.

5. Have an early night

Sleep really is the cure when it comes to fighting a cold. Studies have shown that getting enough sleep helps your immune system, making it more likely to react to bacteria faster. Getting enough sleep will mean that you’re giving yourself the best chance at waking up feeling much healthier.

Great points. For sore throats I recommend a mixture of juice, honey, ginger, lemon in hot water. Always works!
