Happy people get up and go in the morning, nothing holds them down, no delay in their commute or queue can wipe the smile off the face. That’s the kind of girl I want to be. Someone who smiles at strangers, dances in the rain and gets joy out of the little things. Luckily, it’s as easy as just changing your mindset.
Here are seven things happy people do daily!
1. Say no
If you’ve read Sarah Knight’s book “The Life-Changing Magic Of Not Giving A F*ck“, you will know that the best way to get happy is to say no to things that are draining you. You know the kind of things I mean, favors that never get returned, work tasks you just don’t have time for, family things that can wait. It’s tough at first, but once you start, you’ll be saying no all the time, with a smile on your face of course!
2. Learn to love the little things
Every day you need to learn to love the little things. Remember when you were a child and literally everything was a source of wonder? I saw a little boy yesterday so overwhelmed with joy just because a plant pot had fallen over in the wind. I wish I could have that kind of happiness! So go for it! Look at everything as if you’re seeing it for the first time and be grateful for it.
Balance, balance, balance. Balance will make you happy! I mean, balance your work with your social life (don’t let it overtake it), balance your junk food with your fruits and vegetables, just find the balance. It’s really not difficult if you remember number one on this list (hint: say no!).
4. Treat themselves
Every day is a new opportunity to treat yourself. And I’m not just talking about buying all the things, I’m talking about taking a walk, working out, having a bath, doing your hair. The inexpensive stuff that makes you feel amazing. If you buy yourself a present too, I’m not judging, just remember you deserve it. You’re awesome!
5. Try new things
Don’t shy away from food, experiences, and opportunities. You’ll be happier if you just try, even if you don’t like it. This is coming from the girl who doesn’t eat seafood but adores octopus salad, everything you discover about yourself just makes you feel so much happier. You get to know yourself, and that’s amazing!
6. Always be kind
It’s something we all struggle with, behind closed doors we might be mean but no matter what happens we have to stay kind. Smile at the people pushing you on the subway, often they’ve had a crappy day and a little bit of kindness goes a long way. Helping people when you see they need help gives you an instant mood boost. No matter how many people annoy you just greet them with a smile and a deep breath. Kickboxing helps for pent up annoyance, trust me.
