What Happened When I Replaced My Skincare Routine With All Natural Products

I’m not the kind of girl that freaks out about chemicals. I have a wide variety of products that I love, some natural and some not so natural, either way, I’m into slathering things on my face in the name of beauty editorials.

The only thing is, trying everything kind of took it’s toll on my skin, and it started to have a freak-out, which scared me into researching ways to get it back to its former glow. During my research I came across TruSelf Organics, so I grabbed myself a haul of products and started making some skincare swaps.

Swap 1: Detoxifying Face Mask $24.95

I decided if I was gonna commit to this I needed to shelf my old favorites in favor of a natural one. The detoxifying face mask is 100% organic and cruelty-free like all of the TruSelf products and promises to minimize pores, reduce scars and discoloration and is formulated for all skin types. This mask is definitely part of a pampering routine and makes you spend a little more time to yourself, you have to add a little bit of water and mix it together yourself (which is fun!) and then apply the greenish mask to your face and let it dry.

Results: The first time I used it I was scared. I had this feeling that it would only make things worse, and I was prepared for my stinging face to last forever. BUT, I was actually pleasantly surprised. Once I rinsed it off my skin felt soft, smooth and lots calmer. It didn’t cure me overnight, but it definitely didn’t hurt anymore. I used this mask twice in one week – it’s great for when you don’t want to wear makeup as it does reduce pores and even complexion naturally.

Swap 2: Clear Skin Foaming Cleanser, $15.95

How can a cleanser be 100% natural? That was my initial thought, but this cleanser contains nothing but oils, aloe vera, and shea butter. It sounds way too good to be true. And I’m not even supposed to use cleansers on my skin, so I was pretty wary about this one.

Results: Err, I was wrong. Thanks to the all-natural ingredients, this cleanser is super gentle. The foam is easy and lightweight, and it actually does the job of removing makeup and dirt that an average cleanser could do too without any of the irritation I’m used to. I’m starting to like this all-natural routine. Combined with other products, I can definitely say my skin is clearer and calmer and I’ve stopped freaking out about my stinging skin.

Swap 3: Ocean Mineral Moisturizer, $19.50

Again, if you’re gonna commit you might as well go all the way, so I put a lid on my regular moisturizer and picked up this little gem to see if it could soothe my stinging skin. The selling point for me with this one was that it has natural UV protection and stimulates cell regeneration, plus it contains Green Tea which is anti-inflammatory. Anything that sounded cooling and soothing was definitely going to help my poor inflamed face.

Results: So this moisturizer is a real hero product, it smells amazing and probably due to its 100% natural ingredients, is super kind to my skin. After using it for a week the shine started to come back to otherwise dull, red skin and some of the dry patches started to clear up. I’m glad I stuck with it because it’s obviously doing a great job and helping to restore my skin to what it once was.

Swap 4: Raw Body Butter, $18.50

I never ever remember to use any type of body lotion or butter, so I picked this product up thinking it would motivate me to treat the rest of my body with the same care I do my face. It’s supposed to heal and prevent stretch marks, remove dark circles, repair damaged cuticles and moisturize skin and can be used pretty much all over. I decided to give it a go after my regular showers.

Results: I’m still not great at remembering to use it, but it has changed my mind about body butter. It’s not sticky or heavy, and is actually quite cooling and smells great. I use it after shaving for silky smooth legs and all over on stuffy days for a hydrated, cooling feel.

The verdict: Overall, I’m a believer. I didn’t think that making these swaps would have a difference on the condition of my skin but boy was I wrong. These products are obviously gentle enough for use on even the most sensitive skin and they pack a real punch in terms of what they can do, and they probably do it way better than anything I could create in the kitchen. I used to think natural products weren’t as effective as everything else but I just got proved wrong! Thankfully the stinging redness is subsiding so I’m going to stick with my new skincare routine for a little while before I start mixing and matching again!

Because I had such great results with these products and am really excited about them, we’ve arranged a special discount code to share with our lovely readers. so head to TruSelf Organics and use the code CGD20 for 20% off!

Great post! I’m always on the look out for natural products for my skin, but I also drink a ton of water (like up to 4-5 liters a day) to hydrate my skin and flush out toxins, plus it’s free :)

I shifted most of my beauty products for natural ones: honey for face wash, jojoba/argan oil for hair, olive oil/shea butter sometimes for my body, Tea Tree Oil for when acne or something of this type

I work for a dermatology office and the best skin care you can have is a sunblock with an spf of 85 and up. My favorite is Neutrogena dry touch. Goes great with make up and doesn’t give your face that greasy feel or make you smell like the beach either. All the magazines and friends are going to say any spf above 30 doesn’t work. What they’re talking about is skin cancer protection. 30 doesn’t save you from aging or all the dark spots and warts people get from the sun. So if you wear that every morning you don’t even need to moisturize. the actual sunblock comes in a moisturizing vehicle so you get two for one ;)
