What The Heck Are Goji Bowls? Another Crazy Amazing Trend Taking Over Instagram

If breakfast is your favourite meal, and you love to keep up with the latest food trends, it is time for some changes, so be ready to say goodbye to the typical green and orange smoothies. If you are an Instagram addict like myself, you have probably figured out yourself by now that there is a new trend that is taking over the so much loved social network: goji bowls. Everyone is in love with them, from superstars like Madonna to McKel, the founder of Nutrition Stripped as well as registered nutritionist from Nashville.

But what are exactly these cute little bowls? Let’s find out!

So what are Goji berries?

The Goji bowls are named after their main ingredient, Goji berries. Native to parts of Asia and Europe, they have been used for thousands years in traditional Chinese medicines and are now widely available at healthy food shops and sometimes even at supermarket. These cute purple berries are known for being highly nutritious and for their incredible antioxidant properties.

They are high in vitamin C, especially when fresh, even though they maintain a good amount of vitamin C content even when dried. As it usually happens, the quality of the berries you choose influences the amount of nutritional benefits you can get from them so if you are not an expert and feel uncertain, ask for some professional opinions.

How to add Goji berries to your diet

  • Mix them in a salad
  • Drop them in your morning yoghurt and mix them bananas, blueberries, seeds and honey
  • Add them to your daily smoothie (yes, your green smoothie can still be a part of your daily routine)

How to build your Goji bowl

There are tonnes of delicious and nutritious recipes for Goji bowls online, our favourite mixes coconut milk and chia seeds with Goji berries.

  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 3 tablespoons Chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon raw walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon Goji berries
  • 1/3 cup mixed berries (frozen or fresh)
