5 Simple Weekly Habits That Successful Women Swear By

Because I’m obsessed with my job, working around the clock is natural for me. It’s something that I want to do. Successful women felt exactly the same, and probably still do. It’s so easy to let one hour slide into five when you love what you do. So to maintain their balance they give just as much time and attention to developing hobbies as they do their career.

Growing up, I would freeze when someone asked me about my hobbies. I couldn’t help but try and search for a “cool” answer because I felt my hobbies were insufficient. I didn’t dance or rock climb. Instead, I simply liked to read and write for my downtime. It’s what always worked for me. But I was never really comfortable showing that off until recently.

Your hobbies are what make you who you are. They’re the things you enjoy and more importantly the things that help you wind down after a difficult day or week. I’ve been inspired by the hobbies successful women make time for every day, they know it grounds them and gives them a bit of space from the stresses and pressures of their daily lives. Give space to your hobbies and make time for them every day, they will help you develop as a person, grow your skills, and think about things clearly.

Start a book club

It comes as no surprise that Oprah loves to read – she even has her own Book Club. This ensures that she is consistently involved with something that brings her joy from week to week. Not only does she curl up with a book on a Sunday, but her love of reading is incorporated into her everyday life. She has her own library and a collection of first edition books that keep her inspired.

But Oprah’s love for reading goes deeper than just a hobby. It’s a love of language and the power that it holds. It has the power to inspire you, influence you and even change your life in just a few pages. There’s magic in reading and there are lessons to be learned. And Oprah makes sure to always keep learning and growing. Complete a running challenge

We know that Michelle Obama loves to keep fit and healthy. The previous First Lady started plenty of initiatives to encourage people to live more active, healthier lives in her mission to change the country.

Working out and keeping healthy has so many benefits for our productivity, it also helps you to deal with high-stress situations, and what’s more stressful than the White House? But it’s not only about this for Michelle, running allows her the opportunity to just shut off, be at one with her thoughts and think more clearly. Running is a hobby she takes very seriously. Every morning at 4 AM she will rise and jump straight on the treadmill and start her day the way she loves to.

To take a leaf out of Michelle’s book, download an app like Couch To 5K or start your running journey on the treadmill at the gym. Forget how you feel while you’re going and use the time to bring in a kind of meditation. You will find yourself thinking about things in an entirely new way. Get competitive

Anna Wintour begins every day with a game of tennis. She’s even rumored to hit the courts at 5 AM. And if she’s 68 and can do it, what’s your excuse?

Tennis is a game built for those with a competitive streak, which means Anna Wintour means business not only when she arrives in the office but steps on the court too. A sign that she is one to take her hobby very seriously is the fact that she regularly competes in US & French Open Tournaments and even Wimbledon!

Maybe you’re the type who needs to make your hobby a little competitive if so, join a club or get your friends involved. You can head to your local courts, race, or start something completely different. Knowing someone somewhere might be doing better than you is all the motivation you’ll need to head down and smash it. The best (and only) way to stay on track with your fitness goals and make promises to yourself is to write it down and plan it out

Give space to what you love

Beyonce is an all-around amazing woman, who inspires and empowers millions of women every day. And while she has some traditional hobbies like singing, dancing, writing, and reading, she also knows that with her busy lifestyle she needs to slow it down. If you’re the kind of woman who is always on the go, take a leaf out of Beyonce’s book and just enjoy your downtime.

Like most of us, Beyonce loves reality TV. One of her favorite shows being Jersey Shore. And I think this just goes to show that the famous singer is not so different from us all at all. Cuddling up and watching our favorite shows is probably one of the hobbies we dedicate the most time to because it requires little effort. Beyonce treats this like a hobby because she’s so busy and full on, actually switching off requires time and attention too. We all know Beyonce doesn’t spend all of her time watching TV, she also finds the time to focus on other hobbies like Yoga that help her wellness journey and bring her peace of mind.

Don’t forget, in your quest to be the best version of yourself you still need downtime.

Embrace mindfulness

Arianna Huffington can pass a wellness guru herself. She is an advocate for achieving balance and taking the time to unwind and blow off some steam. In a high-stress job and a powerful role, there’s nothing better than giving yourself time to be mindful and stress-free.

The 67-year-old swears by the benefits of using Yoga to blow off steam. And I couldn’t agree more. Yoga is perfect for reducing stress and increasing your mind’s clarity. It was her mother who had inspired to take up Yoga and connect with her inner self on a deeper level.

She begins with 20-30 minutes of meditation, which has always been a huge part of life. And Arianna claims that yoga is connected to her success. In her book ‘Thrive’ Arianna lists the steps of success; well-being, wisdom, wonder and giving and she notes that yoga is a major force for enhancing these steps.

If you feel the pressure of your job or situation, you need to give yourself the time and space to be mindful. Start with an app like HeadSpace and train yourself to fully switch off. It’s an essential skill you’ll need to better prepare yourself for life.
