If you are shy, or even if you are just worried about an upcoming presentation for your bosses. Confidence can be extremely difficult to muster up. Even, the saying “imagine everyone naked” never helped me, why do I want to imagine everyone naked? That would probably make me more nervous! I was extremely shy as a child. But, now I am happy to declare, that I am filled with confidence. I never scare away from interviews, meeting new people or giving presentations in front of audiences of any size. If I can do it, then so can you! I found, just believing in myself really helped me. But let’s turn to the advice of these six successful women to share their tips on how to be confident.

1.

“Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness”

-Ophrah Winfrey (Business insider)

We can’t always win and be the best at everything. So if you’re nervous because you think you’re going to mess up, just accept the fact that that might happen. But come up with a plan for if it does go all wrong, so you always have your game plan to lean on. I decided for presentations I would just go for it. However, say I forgot all my words, everything I had practiced. No worries, I had planned for this like a queen would. I could then look towards my presentation which has pictures as pointers for topics to talk about. Crisis averted.

2.

“Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained”

-Marie Curie

If you are struggling with confidence, just remember we all have moments when we feel like that. However, you need to be your biggest fan, the first step to being confident is being comfortable with who you are. It’s hard yes, but is it worth it? A thousand times yes. I promise you, once you start believing in yourself you will slowly see results in everything you do, from social events to job interviews.

3.

“I had to grow to love my body. I did not have a good self-image at first. Finally, it occurred to me, I’m either going to love me or hate me. And I chose to love myself. Then everything kind of sprung from there. Things that I thought weren’t attractive became sexy. Confidence makes you sexy.”

-Queen Latifah

If you are struggling with confidence in your body, just remember, as long as you love your body and you are happy and healthy then you are perfect. Who cares what Michael down the road thinks about YOUR body. We’re beautiful no matter what. Once you realize that only your opinion matters about your body, then you are on track to becoming a beautifully confident soul.

4.

“Power posing, I do it before any appearance and recommend it to everyone. Gold!”

-Sally Kohn,  Founder & CEO of the movement vision lab

What are power poses? Imagine open and relaxed positions rather than closed off and guarded. No folded arms, stand more than sitting. If you stand in a Beyonce manner, tall with your hands on your hips, legs spread slightly and your chest out for just two minutes a day, you’ll feel much more in charge and confident. Sure you may look like Wonder Woman, but if that’s the price to pay, just do it, my friend.

5.

“Have a go-to pump up song. Mine is Shakira’s ‘waka waka’ from the 2010 World Cup. Play it only when you’re ready to turn into your most badass self”

-Kathryn Minshew, Founder & CEO of TheMuse.com

Sometimes music can really help to set our emotions or at least focus on something else. When I feel down, and unsure of myself, whether I’ve just been dumped and I feel unloveable or I’m not sure who I am anymore. I turn to music to help me address who I am. I listen to music that reminds me how strong I am, how powerful I can be. That I don’t need others to confirm that.

6.

“Visualizing what you want to achieve is the most effective (for confidence). Visualize the behaviors you want and the end results. Seeing yourself there in your head makes it a reality in life. Post pictures and sayings on idea boards and on your fridge so you can help yourself visualize.”

-Venus Williams

If you are having trouble believing in yourself (its okay, we all feel that way at times), don’t give up. I promise you this is just a bad patch, but it’s up to you, and only you, to get through this. If you’re struggling to make things, imagine them happening and keep doing so, soon these will be your natural thoughts and you’ll fight for yourself. If its confidence at work you’re struggling with, then imagine yourself performing that task you’re not confident with. Have faith in yourself, just like we have faith in you.

“We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained”

Pure poetry, and undeniably true. I recently read a quote that said “How faithfully are you tending to the dreams God sowed in your soul?” I loved that. You gotta believe, right?
