In this day and age we rarely think about our skin type and how we can work with it, we’re so used to slapping on makeup and scrubbing with exfoliators that we’re stripping our natural oils from our face and making any problems we have much worse! Problem #1 Oily Skin
Your face is constantly shiny, worsened at certain times of the day and has clogged pores and the occasional outbreak of nasty spots.
Oily skin is not made any better by harsh exfoliators, even if you think you’re scrubbing the shine away. The best thing you can do is use a gentle cleanser, and be kind to your skin. Use an oil-free moisturiser, and look for products specifically targeted towards oily skin, you need a cleanser, toner and moisturiser that works with your skin not against it. Problem #2 Dry Skin

You’ll need a good cleanser and toner specifically targeted at dry skin and a moisturiser that is super hydrating. Problem #3 Combination Skin
Your skin can be both dry and oily! It seems to change with the weather, you can look shiny one day and be flaky the next. Combination skin is harder to treat as it requires (you guessed it) a combination of both oily skin and dry skin treatments. Take tips from both the above problems and apply them to the areas that have issues, a gentle cleanser and toner will be good for all over your face, while a hydrating moisturiser should only be applied to the driest areas. Use a hydrating primer combined with a matte foundation to avoid over shining or drying out your skin.
Your skin care regime should be a major part of your routine, try not to bombard your face with harsh chemicals and remember to take your makeup off before bed and you should have glowing skin in no time!

It is very true that you should use products that are made especially for your particular skin type and texture. Also, I agree that water is important. Being a person with oily skin, I tried everything and still had oily skin. I finally consulted a friend that went to school to be a dermatologist but ended up doing something else. I went to seminars and learned that skincare is 5 steps: exfoliate, cleanse, tone, moisturizer and protect. I learned that my skin was producing oil because it needed oil. My cleanser is water soluble and I use an astringent instead of a toner on bad days. But my serum has vitamin c oil, my moisturizer has argan oil, and I even use facial mist with oils. My friend told me that sometimes the body produces what the person tries so hard to take away. She suffered from dry skin and the more she applied oil, the dryer her skin would become. When she followed the five steps, using products that treated her dull skin instead of her dry skin, she noticed an extreme change. It really is trial and error. I’m big on skincare so my blog is more that than anything else. Hope this helps someone.

I think this article has a major “mistake” in it because the fact that a dehydrated skin is not the same as a dry skin is forgotten! Dry skin lacks oils whereas a dehydrated one lacks water and they need to be treated differently. For years I thought my skin was a combination oily and dry (lacking oils) and wondering why isn’t all skincare work paying off. Then I read about this difference and instead of adding more oil on my oily skin I started using products with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, that lock water/moisture into your skin and they work so much better for me.
The key to keeping your skin healthy is to pick appropriate skin products that fit your skin type, otherwise you end up with worse problems that you had earlier
