How To Focus On Yourself Every Day To Stay Motivated

Wondering how to motivate yourself every day? It’s less about doing things, and more about feeling them. Learning to stay motivated is not the same as learning to be productive. While blocking out the office, making a to-do list, and drinking a cup of coffee might work to keep you productive, the same won’t work to increase your motivation.

We all have those days where we can’t face the gym, or going grocery shopping, or even cooking dinner – usually, they come at the end of the year when we’ve run ourselves ragged with our to-do lists. But, what matters is how you pick yourself up and have at it. You motivate yourself with a combination of little things that you do every single day, not with one great effort.

DEFINE YOUR DREAMS

When motivation has slipped away, you’re probably not sure what you’re working towards. Why are you going to the gym three times a week? Why are you staying late in the office tapping away? Remember the origin story of your dreams and goals and your motivation will come back.

Why did you start all this? Grab a piece of paper (or a planner) and a pen, and start to write about your dreams and goals and how everything you’re working on will help you in the long-run.

NEVER FORGET TO BE SMART

If the S.M.A.R.T method wasn’t drilled into you at school, I don’t know what to tell you. If your goals aren’t S.M.A.R.T no wonder you aren’t motivated to carry them on. You need your goals to be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-sensitive.

You can edit your goals, your to-dos and your personal deadlines to make sure that they are S.M.A.R.T. As long as they’re measurable and time-sensitive, you’ll have all the motivation you need to get ahead of everything you want to do!

WORK ON YOURSELF, GIRL

Being too easy on yourself is an instant killer for your motivation. Have you given in to yourself your entire life? You need to stop that right now if you want to be motivated and stay on top of your sh*t.

You want a snack? So what? You can’t have one. You don’t want to go to the gym? Tough, you’re going. Sometimes some tough love is exactly what you need, and sometimes it’s got to come from within. The best person to deliver it, is, most of the time, you!

GET UNCOMFORTABLE

A lot of the time motivation is tied to comfort. You get so used to being in constant comfort that the things that push you out of your comfort zone or give you an uncomfortable feeling are not fun. 

Challenge this mindset. Being uncomfortable is part of going places. Get used to it and challenge yourself to be as uncomfortable as you possibly can. Speak in a crowd, sing on stage, do something brave to further yourself. If you’re wondering how to motivate yourself every day, you might need to scare yourself to give yourself the kick you need!
