We’re always asking ourselves how to have more time. Time is a precious thing, but all too often we find it running it away from us. Before we know it our to-do lists are endless, our schedule is jam-packed and our spare moments become non-existent. We take out the time saved for ourselves and let our busy lives take over. There just aren’t enough hours in the day. That being said, no matter how busy we may be time-out is essential. Dedicate that time just for you by taking a break from the non-stop lifestyle. But, as career girls, we know all too well that sometimes that’s easier said than done. Need a little help stepping back from it all? Here are 5 ways you can break free from your busy lifestyle:
Learn to say no
Often, when we are at the very start of the career ladder we fall into the “yes” habit. Keen to impress, we take on everything thrown our way. Whilst working hard is a really good thing, taking on too much is not. Being the “go-to girl” won’t impress your employees if you have given yourself too much to handle. Learn your boundaries and encourage people to accept them.
A hobby a day
Sometimes, you just can’t help how busy you are. You can organize everything to perfection and still find that you just don’t have time to do it all. Whilst that’s completely normal, you still have to take time for yourself. Set yourself 30 minutes a day just for you, regardless of your to-do list. Try a hobby, yoga or just read, but make sure it’s time for you and you only.
Know your priorities
If your to-do list is overwhelming, prioritize it. Move your must do’s to the top and set tasks that are not imperative. This will make your list look a lot less daunting. Plus, it will free up your time a bit. If the task is not urgent, ask yourself does it have to be completed today? Or, could you save it for when you have more time to spare?
Be productive
More often than not, our distractions are the cause of having too much to do. We have all been there where we have spent the morning procrastinating, only to have to stay in the office after hours to make up for it. Be proactive in getting things done and you will find that you are far less busy as the day goes on.
Work from bed
Sometimes, no matter how hard we work, how organized we are or how many hours we put it, we just can’t get things done. We are career girls, it’s inevitable. To know what to do when this happens we can take advantage from fellow successful career girl, editor of the Huffington Post Arianna Huffington. She spends her Sunday piling her work up in bed, and staying in bed answering emails, claiming it to be “the perfect combination of productivity and relaxation”. The perfect work-life balance to overcome a busy schedule if you really need it. And if you’re wondering how to have more time, your appreciation of it is all that matters.
