How To Plan Your Day Like Gwyneth Paltrow

 

Gwyneth Paltrow is known as the ultimate wellness guru these days. With her website, Goop, she gives advice to the modern woman who wants to treat their body the best, look good, and feel good. You can imagine that her life, in between appearing at conferences, lending her acting chops to new projects and heading up her website, is extremely complicated. And you wouldn’t be wrong. Her schedule is crazy, and she admits that she is often late, just because she tries to fit so much in. 

Part of the fascination with Gwyneth is that she just seems perfect. She’s always talking about how to treat your body right, what to feed yourself, what to do, the workouts she loves, and she looks great and has a great, loving family.

Ever since her conscious uncoupling, it seems she even had a perfect divorce. While this rattles some people, Gwyneth is clear that she’s as normal as you could expect for someone combining fame with a lifestyle website.

Gwyneth’s daily plan needs to include some staples, getting up at the same time, working out at the same time, eating the same sorts of meals during the week.

It’s so important if you know you have a crazy hectic busy week to plan in the essentials and keep them at the same time every single day.

 

6:00 AM:

WAKE UP + MORNING SMOOTHIE

Gwyneth wakes up at the crack of dawn for a cup of coffee and to get herself in the mood for the day. She likes to get her kids ready in the morning, and will start her day with a smoothie that she makes herself. She drinks this every single day, but has admitted that when she’s on vacation she doesn’t restrict what she eats and doesn’t really work out either.

7:30 AM:

BREAKFAST WITH THE KIDS

Family time is so important to Gwyneth, she gets her kids out of bed and on the way to school by twenty past eight, so it’s so important that they all have breakfast together. She’ll do simple eggs on toast for her kids and make sure they always have a spoonful of lemon flavored flax oil. 

Gwyneth relies on her smoothie to fill her up, and doesn’t eat breakfast often, instead she focuses on getting the kids to school and preparing for her early morning workout. Because she has such an active morning, she needs the energy from her smoothie so it’s important that it contains the right ingredients. If you don’t fancy skipping food, Gwyneth advises to eat clean, “Good proteins and lots of vegetables and not too much grain or sugar, and nothing baked.” Try scrambled eggs with salmon or avocado with poached eggs to start your day. Sprinkle on some chilli flakes to give your avocado a little flavor boost. 9:00 AM

WORKOUT

Gwyneth feels her best when she exercises so she’ll typically work out in the morning before work. She swears by the Tracy Anderson method and has been doing it for years, but she knows that motivating yourself to workout is easier said than done. “I definitely don’t always feel like doing it. I’ve made it a habit, just like brushing your teeth. That’s how you have to look at it. I’ve been a Tracy Anderson fanatic for over a decade, I’m an investor in her company, so yeah, I go every morning.”

Gwyneth does 45 minutes of dance aerobics and then finishes it off with butt lifts and cardio. Because she’s super busy, she’ll usually run for a shower and put leave-in conditioner on her hair while she does her post-workout stretch. She says this saves time on manic days. On a less manic day, she’ll take her time and finish up her stretches before heading to work. 

 

10:00 AM:

PRE-WORK FACIAL

Self-care is extremely important to Gwyneth. She’s renowned for trying almost anything,”I also try to meditate, but I run out of time a lot,” she told Shape. “And I love to take an infrared sauna; it’s really detoxifying. It’s a real gift to myself.” 

If she can fit it in, she’ll have a pre-work facial which saves her time before awards ceremonies or other events she’s needed at. She calls this a ‘sneaky pre-work facial’ but her favorite treatments include, “hardcore squeezing, peeling, microdermabrasion and lasers- the works.” Trying to look her best does take a lot of time and energy, but it works, her skin is glowing and she feels great. Most of the time she’ll either pop her head into work if she’s busy to make sure there’s nothing she needs to do, or be in work for a few hours getting things done. 

 

11:00 AM:

WORK

Gwyneth spends a couple of hours at the office and has the luxury of working a less-intense day than most in terms of actual office hours (because her entire day is dedicated to working in some form or another, whether she’s trying on outfits for an awards show, filming, or creating content for Goop)

“On a less manic day, this would be my couple of hours in the office to work on goop, come up with ideas, write/edit and go over scheduling, travel, whatever else I have going but [if] I have no time I just pop the old cabeza in to see if there are any deadlines or fires that need putting out,” she explains.

 

1:00 PM

LUNCHTIME

Gwyneth’s lunches follow the same rule as her breakfasts, and are most likely clean. She loves keeping cooked brown rice in the fridge for speed, she chops up vegetables, makes a sauce and has created a simple meal. She also likes to avoid carbs if possible, so chicken and vegetables are one of her lunch go-tos. She’ll eat a large salad to keep herself on track, but she realizes that she can’t expect herself to be good all the time.

“But at the same time, you want deliciousness, you want a fun life—pleasure! You’re going to have a baguette-and-cheese-and-red-wine frenzy sometimes—but you want it to be a choice you’re awake to: “I know this might not make me feel great, but today I’m choosing it anyway.”

 

2:00 PM

EMAILS AND CALLS

Gwyneth spends the last few hours of her ‘office time’ on emails and calls, she has phone interviews for two hours, deals with any urgent emails, and also has a weekly call for owner’s and manager’s of the Tracy Anderson Method, which she takes in the office and learns from each week.

Before she leaves the office she wraps up and figures out what her important to-dos are, depending on whether she’s taking work home with her or just picking a task back up the next day.

 

5:00 PM

EVENING ROUTINE

As a fan of clean eating, Gwyneth likes to feed her children healthy nutritious meals too. She’ll cook something like brown rice with baked sweet potato for her kids and sits with them while they eat, before doing the typical mom routine of bath and bed. It’s important to Gwyneth that her children have normal routines, which means that in order to allow her to work, they are also enrolled in after-school clubs.

She’s admitted that she sometimes feels guilty for working so much but knows that they get a good amount of time together outside of her working hours. 

 

8:00 PM

ME TIME

Being a mom and being such a work horse, Gwyneth needs some time to let off steam. After dinner is usually time for her to enjoy her evening, whether she’s unwinding in a bath or out with the girls. She’s a fan of dinner and drinks with her friends, and loves to enjoy life. During these outings she’ll often ‘cheat’ and have”[a] glass of wine, maybe a baguette dripping in cheese, some fries …”

It’s important to remember that you’re human and to try and be balanced. If you make an effort to work out, try your best to eat right, and have fries whenever you fancy them – you’re already doing pretty good.
