@amaka.hamelijnck

Wondering how to simplify your life? The simple life. What does it mean to you? To me, it just means having everything in its place and knowing how things are going to go. It means having a to-do list that’s not too complicated, and a home for everything. When you’re busy, it’s difficult to live a simple life, it’s easy to drop things by the door, stop tracking your to-do list, and let things pile up.

And once you decide what you don’t need and no longer give it space in your life, you’ll feel freer, happier, and ready to get sh*t done!

1. Keep a written log of everything you do

Your life is likely to become busy and cluttered if you don’t keep track of it. And when things pile up, it’s easy to stop keeping track, but to simplify your life you NEED to start writing it down. You need to remember all your notes and the things floating around in your head, you need to keep a record of what you’re reading, eating, and doing so you can decide where you can make some cuts. Remember perfect is the enemy of good, you’re doing a good job already and to simplify your life and make you happier, all you have to do is put pen to paper. This is how to simplify your life.

The Getting Stuff Done planner will give you the mental clarity to achieve a simple life. You can write down your personal notes, keep appointments for yourself, track what you’ve eaten, and keep it all as simple as possible. Cut out the noise from the outside world by writing down simply what you’ve done and what you want to achieve.

2. Minimalize everything

Remember the season of the minimalist? Everyone was decluttering their wardrobes and trying to live with five outfits per week in rotation. If you want to simplify your life it’s time to do it in a sustainable way. Give things to charity, clear up your wardrobe – gift things to people who will actually appreciate it, for example, that top with tags on can go to your cousin heading off to University (if she wants it!) be smart, be savvy!

3. Simplify your expectations

Often, our own expectations of life and relationships can make life more complicated than it needs to be. Simplify your expectations, remember that everybody is busy and try to be positive no matter what life throws at you. For example, once you get rid of the things you’ve been holding onto about the past, you’ll be able to move on into the future and live a simpler life. If your friend let you down and you’re cautious to rely on her, simplify life by letting go of the negative expectations and learn to love your friends no matter what their flaws are.

This also works in a less negative way, if you simplify your expectations of yourself, you’ll feel happier and more productive. We often hold ourselves to such high expectations, when you let them go, you’ll feel AMAZING!

4. Review every week

Sunday is a great day for reviewing your life and how you can make it simpler. One easy way to simplify everything would be to see the things you can cut out of your life every week. Make a little list of three things you can subtract from your life every week and cut them out without thinking too hard about it. This can be anything you want. If you can’t think of five reasons to keep something in your life, you can safely get rid of it. That’s a good rule to live by if you’re trying to simplify everything. And, it’ll come in handy as the years go by.

5. Cut the mental clutter from your life

Mental clutter includes things you need to remember, parties you’re planning, worries you have, negative self-talk, obsessions, gratitude, books you want to read, films you want to see, places you want to go…the list goes on. Everything you carry around in your mind all day every day will make your life so much more complex than it needs to be. This is why you need a scratchpad if you don’t have one you do not know what you’re missing out on. The chance to think clearly and have your brain free of all that noise!
