How to survive Valentine’s day if you’re single

Valentine’s day is on a Saturday this year, which is bad news if you’re trying to avoid it. Wherever you decide to go there’ll ultimately be some kind of reminder that you should be with your Valentine, nevermind the fact that some of us don’t have one or want one. After all what is Valentine’s day but a holiday designed to guilt people into buying cheesy cards and sickly chocolates for one another? Don’t let this holiday bully you, take charge and make the day your own with our handy guide of things to do if you find yourself happily unattached on Valentine’s day.

#1 Have a fling with the TV!

There’s loads of good things on the box at the moment, with services like Netflix and Amazon Prime upping their game with great movies and box sets to binge watch. These services usually offer a free trial so why not make the most of it, stock up on your favourite snacks and watch some good quality telly! Afterall, it’s far too cold to go outside.

#2 Treat yourself!
Why not go on a shopping spree? You don’t even have to leave the house if you don’t want to as ASOS, Missguided, Boohoo, Zara, Topshop, Urban Outfitters and many more have free delivery, sales and Valentines exclusive discounts. Check the full list out here, take the opportunity to buy all those things you really desperately need, and thank the stars you don’t have to spend your money on anyone else.

#3 Get out of the house!
It’s a weekend, so why not get out and do something with your family or friends. Check your local events, go visit a museum or sample an exciting new restaurant or bar, if you live in London we featured this handy guide to cool events in the area. If not, check online for things that excite you and get planning to have an awesome day out.

#4 Have a party!
The fact that Valentines Day falls on a Saturday is great, it means everyone can sleep off their hangover the next day. Not that we need an excuse, but this Saturday seems like the perfect time to have a party. Invite your friends over to yours or plan to meet at a bar, you can get dolled up, be with your favourite people and spend the evening dancing and laughing, what’s not to love!

#5 Celebrate your independence!
You don’t need a date to complete your life, and although this holiday seems to be crafted towards making single people and couples that don’t celebrate it feel bad, don’t worry. You should celebrate your independence, you don’t have to compromise with anybody and the world is literally your oyster. Why not learn something that you’ve always wanted to, go to a yoga class or visit a spa for some ‘me time’. It’s important not to put pressure on yourself to rush into relationships, do what makes you happy and comfortable and above all, have fun!

  1. These are great! I keep seeing many blog posts on “valentines make-up look” or “what to do with your special someone on valentines day” so it’s refreshing someone doing something different! Will definitely be treating myself. And doing lots of online shopping ;) Holly x

  2. I’ve been browsing on-line greater than three hours lately, yet I by no means found any attention-grabbing article like yours. It’s pretty price sufficient for me. Personally, if all webmasters and bloggers made excellent content material as you did, the web might be much more useful than ever before. “Dreams have as much influence as actions.” by Stephane Mallarme.
