How Tyra Banks became so successful: her secrets to business success

Tyra Banks, 41, CEO, TV Host, Actress and Supermodel. She is well-known from her successful TV show America’s Next Top Models, a model for Victoria’s Secret, Swimsuit Illustrated and of course SMIZING! When Tyra was 15 years old, she started modelling while attending school in Los Angeles. She was rejected by 4 modelling agencies before she was signed by L.A. Models and then switched to Elite Model Management at age 16. When she got the opportunity to model in Europe, she moved to Milan to become a successful model.

Tyra was alway very business minded.  

She is what we call a beauty with brains. As a former supermodel, Tyra Banks turned her runway success into a multimedia brand and worked at the helm of two successful television series. America’s Next Top Model and the Tyra Show. She’s a sponge when it comes to learning new information. She tells young women to always believe in themselves. Tyra has achieved her dreams by believing in herself and working hard, and she hopes that women who look up to her will follow.Her advice to girls who are pursuing careers in the business is to work hard to obtain the skills and knowledge you need. And when you get to the top, never dull your shine for anyone. She says, ‘Loving yourself is paramount, no matter what age you are, what race, what shape, what size, you should embrace yourself’.

Don’t chase the money, chase the passion A lot of women want to become financially independent and I tell them to have a goal and have tunnel vision towards that. Also, don’t let things hold you back. As a model Tyra struggled with her weight constantly. She had designers coming to her and said,’ we can’t use you because you’re too fat’. A couple of years ago a lot of magazines put her on every single cover and said that she was overweight, but this all didn’t make her lose her power to succeed and she stroke back in her TV-show.   5. Tyra may be awesome to many but to other models of color that may be competing for the same jobs? She was a total bitch! She told a friend of mine (who is Jamaican decent and born in England) that she didn’t have the right to call herself black because her people were never slaves. Well Tyra, my friend was really upset by this comment as her father’s people were slaves in Jamaica.
