You probably know Malala Yousafzai as the girl who got shot by the Taliban for speaking up for female education. You may also know her as the youngest ever Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Whatever springs to mind when you think of Malala Yousafzai, she is fearless, determined and is an inspiration to every career girl.
“It is very important to know who you are. To make decisions. To show who you are”
It’s easy to succumb to peer pressure and to change yourself to fit in, but Malala reminds us to stay true to ourselves, to embrace our quirkiness; to be whoever we want to be and to be proud of it.
“When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful”
Malala stood up and spoke up for what she believed in, when no one else did. When she did, the whole world listened. It may be nerve-racking to be the only one who speaks out against something wrong, but when done for the right reasons, speaking up will give us confidence to continue standing up for ourselves and others.
“We must tell girls their voices are important”
In male dominated fields, us girls tend to feel intimidated and let opportunities pass us by because we’re afraid to speak up. But our voices are just as important as male voices. We have just as much to contribute as anyone else.
“All I want is an education, and I am afraid of no one”
Malala knew exactly what she wanted and she fought to get it, regardless of anyone, including the Taliban. Focusing on what we want and not letting anything stand in the way, is a step in the right direction to success.
“I say I am stronger than fear”
Fear constantly holds us back but like Malala, we are stronger than fear and we can overcome it to achieve whatever we want.
