Instagram is a great tool for business and personal use, it can shine a light on your particular skills and interests and help connect you with a community of like minded people. If you’re looking for tips to help make your Instagram posts cohesive and make your account more popular, look no further. Here’s our guide to the ultimate Instagram overhaul!
Look through your feed!
Have a look at the kind of posts you’ve been making so far. Identify your most popular posts, posts that have a similar aesthetic and posts that you like. Put them together and have a think about why you like them/why they were popular.
Find some inspiration!
Have a look at Instagram accounts that are very popular or share a similar aesthetic to what you want to do. It’s never too late to do an overhaul and taking photos of a similar aesthetic will give you a similar vibe throughout your accounts and help bring everything together. Check out our Instagram account for some inspo!
Create a hashtag!
You need a way to connect the community, creating a hashtag like #healthygirldaily will unify people who want to see more of what you’re posting.
Create content!
If you know your aesthetic or the aesthetic you want to emulate, creating content shouldn’t be too hard. Simply take your phone out and start snapping, make sure you have plenty of natural light in your photographs and utilise the community’s hashtags. You might even want to take part in a photo-a-day challenge to give yourself some ideas on content, or check out Tyler Wheatley’s Skillshare course on the possibilities of Instagram.
Create a story!
Don’t be afraid to write a little bit of back story for your photographs, Instagram allows you to write 2,000 characters to accompany your images and a longer caption keeps people engaged.
Nothing is perfect!
Honestly, those perfect shots you see have been styled and restyled a hundred times and edited even more. Check out our list of photography apps so you can have professional looking photos with just a few clicks, and bear in mind that if something just isn’t looking good on camera – you don’t have to take a picture.
Interact with the community!
Don’t be afraid to converse with others over Instagram, like and comment on photos you appreciate and don’t be afraid to answer any questions you see popping up. Being approachable can attract tonnes of followers.
Stage a relaunch!
If you’re fed up with your own personal account (I am!) stage a relaunch that matches your brand or values more closely. First go through and delete all the ‘noise’, all the photographs you thought were cute at the time but actually clutter up your account and make people less likely to follow you, then focus on creating a more aesthetically pleasing account.
I’m going to try out an Instagram overhaul right now, the hardest part will be cutting the content I’ve created, so I’m going to try and be selective about what I delete, after all even the bad photographs tell a story! Great post Beth! I really struggle with Instagram and I think it’s because I love all of my photos and I don’t like trying to stick to a particular theme or palate, and (I think anyway) then my feed ends up looking a bit like a jumble of random stuff. I’m going to take your advice and go back through and delete some of my “noise” posts. Thanks again for the tips.
This came at the perfect time! My band was just talking about how to utilize instagram better. We are in the process of finding our “theme” right now. Thank you!
I changed my theme to a blue one as it’s my favourite colour and now it look so clean and consistent – love it!

I totally needed to read this blog post. Thanks so much for the great tips. My instagram has maybe 100 followers and I couldn’t figure out how to get more people engaged in my stuff. I just thought I took bad pictures. Definitely time for a relaunch.
I could definitely take a lot of these tips into account and implement them. Cleaning up the noise is the first one in order!
