The latest, freshest beauty trend from South Korea has us all jumping for joy. It’s nothing weird and wonderful (like snail slime masks) or life-changing, but it is so simple, so ordinary, so sense-making, that we are wondering why we didn’t think of it before!
Sure we know the benefits of eating our vegetables, and we know that you can find vegetables in some products (and have been using them on our skin for a while!) but a whole skincare routine based around vegetables? Now that’s genius. It just makes sense! Our favorite veggies have so many benefits for our skin and only South Korea would be forward thinking enough to start using them as the main ingredients in their products!
In South Korea, glowing, dewy, clear skin is the trend this season, and the only way to achieve that is with a green boost from the outside in!
#1 GOOD SKIN COMES FROM THE OUTSIDE, IN.
In Korea, glowing, dewy skin is king! Matte skin is not youthful, and Korean women are all about making their skin look young. They know the importance of hydration. Cucumber has a 95% water content so is great for hydration and banishing oily skin, it’s also said that the juices are good for soothing acne and spots. Plus, we all know it works wonders on dark circles and puffy eyes so that’s why you find it mainly in eye creams.
What to buy: Korean cult product SkinFood Premium Lettuce & Cucumber Watery Essence is a soothing facial serum that melts away with a watery texture, so makes the perfect glowing, dewy and cool skin in the summer. Or try Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask, as your current exfoliator might be too harsh and stripping away the essential oils. This one contains rose and cucumber so it’s incredibly gentle and soothing but gets the job done.
#2 YOU DON’T HAVE TO LOOK YOUR AGE.

The antioxidants in spinach are great for fighting free radicals (and delay ageing!) while the vitamin K and folate will improve complexion by reducing blemishes. It’s also great for dry skin, the high vitamin content means it provides great relief from dry skin.
What to buy: Pick up Origins By All Greens Foaming Deep Cleansing Face Mask for a detoxifying superfood face mask or try Youth To The People’s Kale + Green Tea Spinach Vitamins cleanser!
#3 YOU CAN HAVE BOUNCY SKIN WITHOUT BOTOX!
The vitamins in Kale (A, C, and K) are good for collagen production which will make your face appear more full and help to heal any scars or blemishes, as well as eating it you should also pick up a product that uses this multi-purpose wonder food. It’s also good for hydration but much better for tightening your skin, giving it a plump – youthful glow and detoxifying your pores.
What to buy: Youth To The People’s cult cleanser doesn’t just look pretty in your bathroom (and on your Instagram feed) it also contains Kale and Spinach so will give you a double boost of green goodness! It’s non-drying and doesn’t contain alcohol so it’s perfect for all skin types.
#4 CLEANSERS SHOULDN’T STRIP YOUR SKIN.
Tomato is good for shrinking pores, removing dirt and healing or cooling damaged skin as it works as an astringent and reduces oil. The vitamins A, C, and E in tomatoes are perfect for soothing sunburn and creating a glowing, fresh complexion without any irritation.
What to buy? Treat yourself to a Skinfood Everyday Facial Mask Sheet (you can also get one with broccoli and quinoa!) to get a soothing dose of skincare goodness or pick up Yes To Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Cleanser which will cleanse impurities without drying out skin!
#5 FATTY ACIDS = FABULOUS FACE!

It’s no secret that avocado is good for skin and hair, the fatty acids in avocado make it great for treating problem skin and giving super hydration to dry areas. The Vitamin C in avocado is needed for collagen production, but it’s mainly used for nourishing and refreshing dry, dull skin.
What to buy? Try Korean favorites TONYMOLY Avocado Mask Sheet Nutrition or Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado which will not only nourish your skin but will activate collagen for a plump, wrinkle-free complexion.
#6 KILL THOSE SPOTS WITH KINDNESS.

This is a new one to us. Artichoke is good for fighting free radicals and has an anti-inflammatory agent that is great for gently fighting spots, redness, and soreness while shrinking pores. It’s crazy that an overlooked vegetable can do so much good!
What to buy? Pick up YURI PIBU Artichoke Power Essence which contains 60% artichoke extract and promises to hydrate and smooth skin while tightening pores. An essence is another Korean skincare staple and is a lightweight serum best for use before your moisturizer.
It’s pretty crazy that the lowly vegetable can do so much for our skin. As someone who has struggled to find the perfect skincare routine for years, vegetables could just be the secret to super smooth Korean skin!
