The Queen of talk shows and a motivation to women all over the world: Oprah Winfrey. She is commonly known as one of the Power Women of our century and with her positive mindset and incredible will-power, she showed the world that it doesn’t matter where you come from or what your past is, everything is possible!
If we look at her life, we can only conclude that she is a fighter and a winner in life. There is so much to learn from this beautiful woman, that 1 article would probably not be enough.
Get the ultimate Monday morning motivation with these 7 life lessons from Oprah Winfrey;
#1 – There is no big secret to life
“The big secret in life is that there’s no big secret. Whatever your aim, you will get there if you’re willing to work.”
It is pretty black and white! We often think that super successful people were just lucky and we often forget to look at their road to success. Most successful people worked extremely hard, had to give up a lot, but kept focussing on their goal.
It is also important to see the difference between people that have a lot of money and people that are successful, these 2 don’t need to go hand-in-hand!
#2 – Choose your friend wisely
“Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.”
In order to become successful you need to have people around you that lift you up instead of bring you down. It is better to have a few very good positive friends, that believe in you and lift you up, then loads of friends that don’t care about what you do, as long as you don’t do better than them (believe me, there are more people like that than you might think).
#3 – Approach negativity with excellence
“Excellence is the best deterrent to racism or sexism.”
Oprah had to deal with a lot of sexism and racism but always responded with excellence. Don’t let negativity bring you down, and always remember, you are in charge!

#4 – Helping other is helping yourself
“The surest way to bring goodness to yourself is to make it your intention to do good for somebody else.”
You are not successful if you are not willing to help people around you and lift others up. We often think by helping others, it is only them that get something out of it, which is not true. Helping someone else, without expecting anything in return, is such a powerful mindset to have and a key habit of successful people.
#5 – Know when and how to slow down
“Sometimes in the thick of life, when my call list is longer than the day and people are lined up waiting for meeting after meeting, I just stop. I still myself. And look at a tree. A flower. The sun’s light reflecting off the window. And I remember love is available. I inhale it, exhale, and get back to work.”
Your career is important but know when you need to slow down and take a break. Don’t overwork yourself, it is not good for you health, your concentration and your work.
#6 – Own everything you do
“This is your moment. Own it.”
Whatever it is you aim for, make sure you smash it! Don’t do things for 50%, go for 100% or don’t do it at all!
#7 – You are the one in charge
“We’re each responsible for our own life. No one else is or even could be.”
This is such an important point! You are in charge of your life, so whatever happens to you, always try to stay positive and approach life positive. It is amazing how much this mindset can change your life.
