How To Look Confident Even When You’re Not

Insecurities, fears, doubts. They plague all of us at some time or another! Even if you’re the most confident gal in town, a bad day could ruin your mojo. So how do you fake the confidence you need to get through a day of work/meetings/appointments/social meetups?

We’ve come up with a survival guide for those days when you need that extra confidence to carry you through:

 

POSTURE

Yes, mom was right when she nagged us to stand up straight. Your posture says so much about you and your state of mind. I’ve often envied the girls I see who seem so physically comfortable in their own skin. But we can achieve that too: sit up, stand tall, roll your shoulders back, stretch your neck, and hold your head high!

Most importantly, try not to fidget. I’m a chronic fidgeter, but it’s amazing the confidence you can emanate when you relax your body into comfortable stillness, and let go of those nervous tics. You’ve got this! “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
 

PUT SOME MAKE UP ON…

Makeup can do wonders if you’re feeling off. So don’t neglect your makeup today. The key here is keeping it natural and understated – if you look lovely and fresh in a natural way, you won’t feel like you’re hiding under layers and layers of makeup. “You are more powerful than you know, you are beautiful just as you are.” ~ Melissa Etheridge
 

WEAR SOMETHING YOU LOVE

That one piece you love – maybe it’s your gorgeous winter coat, or a soft and pretty sweater, or those boots you splurged on. Get it out and own it! For me, it’s my black Brandy Melville dungarees. Put together a killer outfit (not a painful one – try and make sure you’re comfortable too) where every item makes you happy and you’ll kill it in life too! LISTEN TO YOUR HAPPY MUSIC

Have a playlist ready for these days when you really need that extra confidence. Fill it up with your favorite happy music – maybe that’s pop queens Britney Spears and Taylor Swift or maybe it’s some amazing jazz tunes! Blare it through your headphones as you go about your day, and you’ll avoid falling into a sad, mopey music slump. “The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.” ~ Alice Walker
