How Loving Your Body Can Bring You Success

This time last year I was filled with this horrendous dread knowing that summer was on its way. Everyone would nod sagely and say I just had to work out more or eat less to prepare for it, but then I took a step back and realized, it’s only a holiday – and the only people that will be seeing me are my friends.

This week Ashley Graham featured in DNCE’s music video and the internet lost its mind. Ashley is beautiful, healthy and a better representative of the different shapes and sizes in the world, so I thought I’d take the opportunity to share her inspiring Ted talk on a Monday morning.

I know we all go through phases of hating our bodies. I don’t know why we do it, I do it all the time. I am obsessed with looking at every angle and pulling myself apart in ways I’d never let anyone else do.

Ashley was known as the girl that was ‘pretty for her size’, and this led to her confidence plummeting to an all-time low. She hated what she saw in the mirror, so she ended up looking for affirmation from others because she couldn’t love herself. Can you believe that?

Loving yourself and reclaiming your image as Ashley did can help you feel so much more confident no matter whether you’re strutting into the office or scheduling interviews. Watch this talk and be inspired to look in the mirror and tell yourself you’re a beautiful boss!

Wow, I have seen that speech before but this post came at the perfect time in my life for a little reiteration for my current choices. I have lately been trying to focus so much more of my effort on loving the way I look and being grateful for my body. It’s is so funny how that happens. Thanks for sharing girl!

What I love about Ashley is that she is all about embracing your body shape and your curves but also about staying healthy. She exercises, she eats well… I think she is an amazing role model! Often curvier or larger women who have become icons have actually been promoting a lot of self love, which I am all for, but a kind of unhealthy lifestyle. And I don’t mean that for aesthetic reasons, but eating well and moving is important for our organs to stay healthy so we can live longer. What a fantastic girl!

This is totally my struggle right now. Just to look in the mirror and love myself. Isn’t it sad that we can look at someone else and love them but when it comes to our own selves/bodies we struggle so much?
