Foundation that lasts all day is pretty much the makeup holy grail and even formulas that claim 12-hour wear always seem to fall short.
However, it may not be the formula that’s the problem – but the application. Nicknamed ‘The Goss Method’, this unconventional way of applying your base was discovered by MUA Wayne Goss, and not only keeps your base in place all day but smooths over pores for a flawless finish. So what is the magic ingredient? Read on to find out…
Step 1: Moisturize
Hydrating your skin is always crucial to ensure your foundation doesn’t cake or cling to dry patches throughout the day. Wayne uses Bobbi Brown’s Extra Moisturising Balm to hydrate the skin. This multitasking cream is super rich, and even Bobbi Brown herself has named this the one product she couldn’t live without!
Step 2: Glow
Wayne then takes an illuminating base to add a glow to the complexion. He uses the Wonderglow by Charlotte Tilbury. This sheeny, champagne toned base draws light to the skin by reflecting UV rays from your surroundings. Clever! It’s also packed with collagen boosting peptides to promote seriously radiant skin.
Step 3: Powder
Here comes the clever bit! Wayne uses a translucent powder before applying his foundation. Doing this locks in the moisture provided by the balm and primer and smoothes over pores and fine lines for a flawless canvas. In this video, Wayne uses Nars’s Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder, specially formulated to diffuse light for a soft focus finish.
Step 4: Foundation
Finally time for foundation! You can use your favorite base here, but Wayne uses Charlotte Tilbury’s Light Wonder Foundation, blending it in with his fingers. The effect is smoothed out, perfect skin! If you have oily skin, you can add another light dusting of powder now, but if your skin is dry then you won’t need this step for your foundation to last all day. Try it, it’s seriously life changing!
