Why You Need To Treat Your Blog Like A Magazine To Boost Followers

Running your blog like a magazine is probably the best way to boost followers and get what you want from it. The danger is that you’ll treat your blog as an extension of yourself and forget to post consistently or deliver good content. In order to be successful, you need consistent branding, engagement with your followers, good quality posts and good SEO. So, if you want to grow your blog, it might be time to start treating it like a magazine. Here’s how.

Branding
The first thing you notice about a magazine is the front page, they have consistent branding and the most popular headlines on the front. Take a look at your blog’s front page and see if it has the same effect, does it make people want to stay? Does it match the style of your blog? If you can pin posts to your front page, or feature them, you should use only the best posts. Likewise, take some time to figure out your logo and color scheme, you can even purchase templates for your blog.

Content and values
Magazines have editorial meetings and their content has to be strong. When you’re choosing the content for your blog, choose what interests you but make sure it has a good story. If you’re passionate about a subject, most likely your readers will be too. The best thing to do is to prepare a list of 10+ topics you want to write about in the future, that way your brainstorming sessions are once a week and you never run out of ideas. Also, you should define your values so you know what kinds of collaborations and opportunities you should avoid and which ones you’d be excited about.

Research
Well-researched content is the key to a good post, but you should also research good strategies for making that content reach a wide audience. SEO strategies are important, but so is advertising, marketing, and social media. Check out our list of courses every blogger needs to check out if you need some help with your research.

Images
Your images should be consistent throughout, there are tonnes of free pictures you can use on websites like Unsplash, but if you use your own photographs you should make sure they are consistent. You can always learn about photography, and these days you don’t need super expensive equipment to produce great photographs, you can even take them with your phone. Create a mood board that will give you an indication about the branding and photography you want to feature.
