It’s the beginning of the week, which means the only thing on your mind is probably going home to Netflix and snuggling up with a great show. At this time of year, it’s easy to watch every series on your radar. Friday is our one day to think about nothing, and plan nothing – too. Netflix has all our faves on it, we all know that, but the Netflix Originals are where its really at – unique, interesting shows that will keep you hooked from the very first episode.
We know you want a round-up you can actually browse this evening, so here are a few of our favorites!
1. Gilmore Girls – A Year In The Life
I never even watched the old seasons of Gilmore Girls. But after seeing everyone going crazy when A Year In The Life first came out, I was a little curious. And as I love anything girly it was the perfect the match. The writer of the original series came back to the end the epic finale the way she always wanted to and now we can see it too. If you’re a fan of Gilmore Girls, you’ll love this update. It’s been years since the last episode took us to Stars Hollow, and though it was a while ago when this came out, you will love this mini update.
2. Orange Is The New Black
If you haven’t watched it already, where have you been? This series gets better and better by the season as we follow Piper on her comical, but not so comical journey in jail. Along the way, she makes friends and enemies of some very over the top, unusual and unexpected people. But the series touches on some very difficult relevant issues not only inside the penal system but outside of it too.
3. A Series of Unfortunate Events
I was in love with the book series. I was in love with the original movie. And now I’m in love with the series. Neil Patrick Harris does an amazing job of playing Count Olaf, even though he had big shoes to fill. The series is everything the movie couldn’t be, but with one hour an episode, we get to see more that we didn’t get to see before. So, follow the tragic tale of the Baudelaire children who are experiencing a series of unfortunate events.
4. The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
I’m not one for goofy comedy and I started watching this for some background TV. But then I actually got into it! And it’s actually really funny! There is one episode in particular that’s genius – and I’m not giving any spoilers! After fifteen years of being in a cult, Kimmy is now free and in NYC! Taking everything in with massive enthusiasm, watch as her wannabe actor roommate Titus try and introduce her to modern life!
5. Making A Murderer
This documentary literally took over all of our lives. It’s so binge-worthy that you’ll find yourself never wanting to turn it off! I’ve never been so hooked on a show in my life. It’s about Steven Avery, who was imprisoned for two decades for a crime he was falsely accused of. Upon his release, he tries to sue the police department that put him away. However, Steven is soon put back in jail for another murder. But is this one he committed?
When you see Naomi Watts starring in a production you know it’s going to be good. And Gypsy does not disappoint. It’s a psychological thriller that follows a therapist in NY, who has a very successful and picturesque life. However, Jean develops intimate and even illicit relationships with the people her patients are connected to. Her world becomes a blur of fantasy and reality, which is which?
7. The OA
If you liked Stranger Things and have already binged watched it, then here is your next fix that will fill that hole for a little while. The OA keeps you on the edge of your seat until the final episode, where my hairs were literally standing up on my arm. It’s about Prairie Johnson, who wanders home after being missing for seven years. This is not the only surprise. She has also returned no longer blind. But this is not where the mystery ends.
8. Grace & Frankie
This series is perfect for a Sunday night when you have literally watched everything else on Netflix. It’s funny and perfectly heart-warming. And all of a sudden you’re in love with the characters and hooked on the storyline that is ever developing. Grace and Frankie, only originally friends through their husbands are forced to become close when both of their husbands come out gay with each other.
9. The Killing
You will be obsessed, obsessed, obsessed. If you love anything to do with detective drama then this one will be right up your street. It has three series that keep the same main characters but with different plot lines. You watch as Detective Sarah Linden tries to solve three murder cases and keep her personal life in check too.
10. The Good Place
When I started watching this I didn’t expect to be as into it as I am! I’m currently waiting for the new episodes to drop with severe anticipation! The Good Place is not only funny, but it has an unexpected twist. It will take you so much off guard that your jaw will drop! Eleanor finds herself in the afterlife and is quite pleased to find that she’s made it indeed to ‘The Good Place’ despite not being a very good person. Until she finds out she’s there by mistake.
If you love criminology, you’ll love this. This is another one for you crime drama series lovers! The series is one you will definitely be hooked on as it follows two FBI agents, Holden Ford and Bill Tench. Watch as they delve into the minds of serial killers in order to catch one themselves. See firsthand serial-killer profiling and see truly how a villain thinks himself.
12. Black Mirror
If you haven’t started watching this yet then I suggest you do immediately! It is definitely one that you cannot miss. It’s definitely one that will mess with your head a little bit as you start to spot the differences between the show and reality. It explores uneasy subjects about the modern world that is not only sharp but suspenseful.
