I have always loved reading, nothing beats being so engrossed in a book that you feel part of the story. One book will forever stick in my mind as an addictive page turner and top of my list when suggesting a book to a friend, The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I read this book in a day and a half and it really struck me as a life changing.
Life doesn’t plan out exactly how you think it will-
Hazel and Augustus never planned for their illness, never planned for their trip to take a downhill spiral in Amsterdam, but they came away from the trip learning new things that they didn’t know before. You can have a set calendar for how and when you want things to happen, but life doesn’t follow those set days of yours, you have to take one day at a time and see a silver lining out of every down day.
Always be kind, everyone is fighting something-
This book really made me think about others. We always submerge ourselves into our own problems instead of being grateful for what we have. When people make comments on others or don’t give someone the time of day because of their own problems, they close themselves off to learning and growing. Next time you find yourself doing that, take a minute and imagine the shoe on the other foot. By taking 5 minutes out of your day to listen and help another person, not only are you brightening your day, you also can learn from others to better yourself.
‘The world is not a wish-granting factory”- John Green
My favorite quote. We are all handed with hardships, but our battle makes us stronger and more appreciative of those around us. It’s important to be happy and grateful for our place in the world and focus on living in the moment. Everything happens for a reason, yes we have dreams and motivation to strive towards what we would like to accomplish and that’s key too, but enjoy every step to that dream (even the hard times) because when you finally reach that dream it will feel even better!
Have you read The Fault in Our Stars? What did you think of it?
