After Christmas, most of us are in a food-indused coma. We’ve eaten our body weight in food, enjoyed ourselves and probably drank too much too. Now’s the time when you’re not sure what day it is and are just enjoying being in a food coma. But if you want to undo all the excess, you need to try a Christmas detox that will get you back on track.
Have you ever heard of the mid-tox? Between Christmas and back to work, this is the perfect time to start a mini detox and get yourself back on track.
Step one: Try the best drink for your belly
Kombucha sales go crazy at this time of year, and brands are trying to improve the taste of this fermented tea. It’s super popular because it’s so good for you especially at this time of year. It’s good for gut health and can help you get back on track if the holiday season has made you feel bloated and sluggish. Stock up on kombucha and swap it out for your morning coffee or tea, and you’ll start to feel so much better already.
Step two: Cut the bloat in just a few days
Sugar, cake, biscuits, and white pasta should be cut out until the new year. Obviously, New Year’s celebrations call for alcohol and snacks, but if you’re smart about it, you can cut it all out until your celebrations, or even get smart with your snacks and drinks. You can even create sugar free cheesecake with this recipe.
Step three: Exercise the easy way
Between now and the first week of January, you have plenty of time to exercise. Before gym memberships get renewed, you can work out at home or even just try to fit in 10,000 steps a day. Use a pedometer app or a Fitbit to measure your progress. Science shows that 10,000 steps a day can make a huge difference to your fitness goals and progress. Who doesn’t love a walk at this time of year, you can even bring the family along with you.
Step four: Make this your time
This time of year can be stressful, towards the end of the holiday season there’s a lot of pressure to be perfect, join a gym, etc. The best way to detox your body, is to detox your mind as well. Every morning, do a quick sequence of mindfulness with Headspace, you’ll feel clear headed, and confident. And be more able to stick to a healthy and realistic detox where you do more things that are good for you.
Step five: Follow a simple meal formula
Instead of trying a juice diet or building unrealistic meals, you can stick to a simple healthy formula of protein, vegetables, and wholegrain carbohydrates. You can have porridge with nuts, or brown toast with eggs for breakfast. Chicken and salad for lunch or fish or meat with green beans for dinner. You can easily follow this if you’re a vegeatarian or a vegan, as well.
Step six: Try new things
2018 is the year of wellness trends. From cactus water to moringa, making your detox exciting is easy. And keeping it fresh will keep you on track. Matcha tea is a personal favorite of mine, and trying a mint matcha milkshake in the morning really changed the game for me when I was trying to be more healthy. It’s easy at first to stick to the same regime, but after a while you’ll get bored. That’s why you need to switch up your exercise routine often, too.
