In the words of Marilyn Monroe, “I don’t know who invented high heels, but all women owe him a lot.” High heels are feminine, empowering and can make anyone in a super fitting pair of jeans look like a fashion editorial. The higher the better, the pointer the more trendy, the skinner the heel the more powerful the outfit. No pain, no gain, right?

However with the emergence of flats over the last few years, women and shoe designers alike have slowly been given the chance to get creative and find alternative ways to carry flats into the world of ladies footwear elite.

Ballet flats have been the traditional round toe alternative to heels since the 50’s. If you are seeking a classic and polished look these flats are your go-to. Keep a basic color like black or metallic in your wardrobe, or stay on-trend with seasonal colors, such as autumn’s most talked about shade ‘wine’ in Tory Burch’s minnie travel shoes for on-the-go fashionistas.

As a chic alternative to the basic style flat, ankle boots are the new LBD for the season. These suede flat boots have the versatility to take you on a day of shopping. While you “werk” these loafer inspired ankle boots to pep up your blue Monday. Alternatively, for that cool girl swagger moto ankle boots with short dresses are perfect for an evening on the town.

Pointy toe flats are trendier and usually dress up even the most basic wardrobe for a business casual breakfast meeting. They are also the first step for girls taking a leap from heels to flats. Patterns such as these striped pointy-toe and leopard print flats can accentuate a classic outfit, turning traditional to chic. [show_shopthepost_widget id=”1028850″]

Special occasions, call for flats like these. They beautifully accessorize cocktail dresses and allow free-spirits to express personality in their footwear. So why not take the kitty for a walk or give a wink to the world with these Chiara Ferragni.

Menswear-inspired footwear give life to preppy styling. They are excellent in colder weather and look brilliant with trousers and suites. Loafers are also excellent for girls who need a bit more support. Go classic with these flats with fringe or add an old school touch to a modern look with rugged lug soles. For the stylish weekender go for these.
