Six Smart Ways To De-Stress At Your Desk!

We all know that feeling when you’re sitting at your desk with the intent to write something great or complete a heavy task, only to find that you can’t move forward due to intense stress or irritation at something that happened earlier on in the day. It feels impossible to keep working when you’re this stressed out, but before your blood pressure rises any higher, take note of these simple ways to de-stress at your desk.

#1 Take a deep breath
Yes, it seems like an obvious tip but taking a few deep breaths to calm you down can help you reassess the situation and start again. Inhale through your nose and breathe out through your mouth as you would if you were doing yoga, and prepare to let the stress just slip away.

#2 Invest in a stress ball
Honestly, these things are life savers if you’re a little passive aggressive like me. Taking all your stress and frustration out on a squidgy little ball helps to release any tension that you’ve built up and can keep your hands busy while your brain has a little break and thinks about happy things.

#3 Keep your environment nice
Yes, an excuse to decorate your desk space! Put up your favourite pictures, quotes and mantras that inspire you and will keep you working happy, when you’re feeling stressed visualise your goals and look at some of your favourite pictures to keep you going!

#4 Get some peace
Visualisation is great, if you need to close your eyes and imagine the ocean – so be it. Headspace is a great app, pop your headphones in and close your eyes for ten minutes to de-stress, if anyone questions you just say you’re brainstorming…inside your brain. Don’t forget to keep moving too, shaking your shoulders and wiggling your fingers and toes will help you literally shake off the stress!

#5 Have a laugh
Chat to your favourite funny friend or co-worker and have a laugh to break the monotony of work and cancel the effects of stress, smiling will reduce stress and cut the tense atmosphere that may be building around you. Other people can tell you’re stressed too, you know!

#6 Drink some water
It’s so important to stay hydrated, especially in a work environment where you may end up moving very infrequently. Stay hydrated lowers stress levels, and gives you an excuse to take a walk to the bathroom if it’s all getting too much!

It’s so easy to stay stress-free at work, make sure you have a happy and healthy work environment and that you ask for help and support if you need it! Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Bloglovin to stay up-to-date with everything us CGD girls are up to and to be the first in-the-know with our amazing updates and giveaways!

Great reminder of simple things that REALLY work. I am guilty of underestimating the importance of breathing as odd as it sounds….

It’s surprising how much sitting down and having a glass of water on your own can actually help to relax, if I get overwhelmed that is what I do. Great tips!

I find water essential in the office. Loads of it! I also try and have a short walk every now and then – this helps so much to be able to think clearer.

I work and study from home, so for me it also helps to get away from the desk and do some cleaning or other completely different things, Makes me de-stress and ready to return to the desk after a while.
