Wondering how to organize your house in just a few small steps? Ok, hands up, how many of you have uttered the famous last words “I’ll deal with it later,” before leaving the house? Organizing your home can be chaos, and if you really think about it, the list of tasks is never-ending. From vacuuming to wiping surfaces, it can be more than a little depressing to think about when you’re already so busy with work (and play!).
So, to save your time and energy, why not try these small weekly steps to get everything under control?
1. Make the bed
The first thing you should do before you leave your bedroom is make the bed. It’ll be so much nicer to come home to and make your room feel instantly lighter and brighter. It seems like a simple tip, but taking a few minutes to smooth a throw down on top of your duvet and make it look neat really elevates a room. You can organize your house if you start with one simple task – making the bed!
2. Put away the laundry
We are all guilty of throwing our socks and PJs on the floor when we’re in a rush in the morning, take two minutes to gather up your clothes and put them in the laundry basket. Future you will be grateful!
3. Lay out your comfy clothes
When you get home in the evening, you just want to roll into your comfy clothes. Whether that’s a pair of leggings and a jumper or fresh PJs, leave them out on the bed, ready to greet you after a long day!
1. Tidy your toiletries
Whether it’s your makeup bag, your bath stuff or your morning skincare routine, leaving it out looks cluttered and although you don’t have to think about it when you’re at work, once you come home it can instantly ruin your mood. Wipe your mirror while you brush your teeth, gather everything up and put it in the correct place. You’ll be thankful later.
2. Open a window
Open a bathroom window to encourage fresh air into your bathroom, it’s easy for this room to smell closed off and fusty, especially if you’re having showers every morning and keeping it closed up. You can shut it again before you actually leave the house, but keep it open in the morning so you can come home to a fresh, aired-out home.
3. Replace your towels
How nice is it to come home to fresh warm towels? Okay, we don’t all have towel racks we can leave on all day, but you can still swap out your towels in the morning after your shower. It’s one less thing you need to think about in the evening if you do it in the morning!
1. Tidy the counter
Spend a few minutes tidying the counter after you eat your breakfast, you can even empty the dishwasher while you have your morning coffee or juice, which will really take the load off of you when you come home later.
2. Group your meal ingredients together
You probably haven’t thought of this before, but you can group your ingredients for dinner that night together and put them somewhere that’s easy to access. Put things like flour, rice, and spices on the counter, while the rest can stay in the fridge. You can even put out the scales, knives, and chopping board you’ll need later. That way when you walked in, everything you need is ready.
3. Leave yourself a treat
After a long day, we all need a little pick me up. Leave yourself a little treat to welcome you when you come home, whether it’s a moreish cupcake or a little present, you’ll be so thankful for that little reminder to treat yourself when you get home.

Yes, we’ve shared this tip before but it’s so simple and has changed so many people’s lives at this office, we’ll share it again. Get yourself a simple metal basket like this one from H&M home and fill it up with clutter every morning. You don’t have to deal with it until the basket is full. You can even leave it until the weekend, that way you come home to a clutter-free space. It’s also a great strategy for keeping your bedroom clutter-free.
3. Let the light in
Before you leave, let some light in. If you’d prefer to keep your house closed up while you’re not there, make sure there are plants in the living room that can filter the air and create a fresh environment when you return!
When you come home it’ll be like someone else has organized your house while you were at work!
