CGD Beauty: How To Start Anti-Aging In Your Twenties

Screen Shot 2015-09-12 at 18.04.58Wrinkles, frown lines, sun spots. They seem ages away when we’re in our 20’s. Why worry about them? Then, one day we wake up, and notice crows’ feet around our eyes! What happened? Summers of suntans, late nights partying or working, fast food treats, lack of exercise…bad habits catch up with us sooner than we think, making us look older before our time.

Don’t let that happen to you. Wrinkles are hard to treat, but easy to prevent. You just need to get serious about anti-aging in your twenties. Here’s how:

#1. Moisturize with niacinamide

A stable form of vitamin B3, niacinamide is a powerful multitasker. It reduces the appearance of fines lines, wrinkles, and sun spots, helping skin look younger for longer (Source). And that’s not all. Niacinamide also moisturizes skin, soothes rosacea, and treats acne! You can find it in Olay Regenerist Advanced Anti-Aging Regenerating Serum Moisturizer Fragrance-Free.

#2. Exfoliate with glycolic acid

Most exfoliants only remove dead skin cells from the skin. Glycolic acid does that, and a lot more. It also hydrates skin, and boosts collagen production, which makes skin firmer and more elastic (Source). The results? Smoother, brighter, younger-looking skin. Get a tube of Paula’s Choice Resist Daily Smoothing Treatment with 5% Alpha Hydroxy Acid and see for yourself.

#3. Prevent wrinkles with antioxidants

You know the saying, “prevention is better than cure.” So prevent those wrinkles from forming by adding antioxidants to your skincare routine. Vitamins C and E, green tea, coenzyme Q10, resveratrol, and ferulic acid, to name a few, can all fight free radicals, one of the main forms of ageing. Which one should you use? A combination works best. Future Derm Vitamin CE Caffeic Silk Serum 16+2 is chock-full of them!

#4. Rejuvenate with retinol

Dermatologists the world over consider retinol the gold standard for anti-aging. And for a good reason. This form of vitamin A can boost collagen production, and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sun spots. The sooner you start using it, the better. Our favourite retinol product? Skinceuticals Retinol 1.0 Maximum Strength Refining Night Cream.

#5. Protect with zinc oxide

You can use all the best anti-aging ingredients in the world every day, but there’s only so little they can do if you skip sunscreen. You’ll just damage your skin more quickly than those goodies can fix it. We love sunscreens with zinc oxide, like Kate Somerville Daily Deflector™ Waterlight Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ PA+++ Anti-Aging Sunscreen, because they can protect against both UVA and UVB rays, and are super gentle on the skin.

Have you started an anti-aging skincare routine yet? We know it seems strange but it really works!
