Getting into work mode when you’re jostling around on a crowded, humid tube is difficult. There’s no way you can enter the office feeling inspired after swapping from your flats into your favorite heeled boots in the toilets or being elbowed down the street as you try to make it to the office on time.

Luckily, I’ve got a way to drown all that noise out and stay inspired every morning and evening on my commute. Podcasts. Often overlooked, the right podcast can get you in the mood for a productive day, and lately I’ve been going podcast mad!

There’s a podcast for everything, from being inspired to getting creeped out (probably best not to listen to those on your nightly commute!) here are my favorites at the moment.

MORNING INSPIRATION THAT ISN’T A CUP OF COFFEE!

It all started when Allison Behringer got an email asking if she’d like to be part of an exciting new opportunity. Most of us would ignore the email, but Allison said yes and this podcast was born! Listen as Allison navigates the world of work as an intern in a tech company (knowing nothing about tech!) and a brand new city (New York!) and be inspired by her stories and anecdotes. Start with Episode 1: A Great Success Or A Great Failure to hear her Grandpa’s very wise thoughts on her new podcasting adventure.

NO FILTER FUEL FOR YOUR LUNCHTIME CHATS

Mia Freedman has no filter. No filter in life, love or work. So she’s basically the best person to sit down with all kinds of interesting people and ask them the questions most people would be afraid to. It’s not the tough journalism questions we’re used to, it’s the real life questions that help you get to know these people properly. Start with Episode 1 or jump right in with her latest episode and hear why Gloria Steinem feels sorry for Kim Kardashian.

A PARISIAN PICK ME UP FOR YOUR 2PM SLUMP

The success of Love x Style x Life by Garance Doré has us all in awe. She has a killer blog, a killer style and a great sense of self-purpose. So when I saw the familiar scrawly writing and pink background on the podcast app on my phone, I jumped for joy. Listening to her speak with inspiring people or just answer her reader’s questions gives me a huge dose of inspiration and often helps me come up with new content ideas. If you need French girl vibes to pick you up definitely listen to the La Parisienne episode featuring Isabel Marant and Caroline de Maigret

THE MAGICAL BOOST YOUR EVENING COMMUTE NEEDS

magic-lessons

So this one was actually recommended to me by one of our readers, Inma, after I wrote about how much Big Magic had inspired me (I’m still reading and highlighting it!). I checked it out shortly after and loved it. The book is literally filled to the brim with amazing tips on living a creative life and the podcast is only an extension of that. Start with episode one “Do what ignites your soul” and listen as Elizabeth helps people get in touch with their big magic. P.S Also buy the book, because I am in love with it.

THE EVENING CHILL WHEN YOU’RE ALL OUT OF MAKING A MURDERER

Oh. My. God. If you’re a fan of true crime you will love this. When Netflix doesn’t cut it in the evening, close your eyes and listen to Serial. I promise you won’t regret it. Each episode tells you a little bit more about the story, from the point of view of Sarah Koenig – a journalist who takes it upon herself to do the investigating for us and talk to the main players. Listen to them in order, and start with episode one – which tells us about the tragic death of Hae Min Lee and the unlikely boyfriend who went to jail for it based on an absence of just 20 minutes. Controversial, viral, amazing.
