This Is The Secret To A Successful Business

What do the most successful women have in common? Although we all wish there was some secret that sets them apart, the truth is much more down-to-earth. What sets them apart is their ability to work hard. To tough it out! Most of the time, we see people’s success in the media or on our social feeds but what we don’t see is the late nights, the endless revisions and the tension that all comes together in the end and creates success.

I know we all have an endless list of goals and dreams that we want to pursue but sometimes, we fall prey to laziness or even the fear of hard work. Well, at least I’m a little guilty of that! If you want to be successful, you need to learn these three things…

1. There is no such thing as ‘I can’t’…

Of course, saying you can’t do something is a good answer if you’re busy, but if you can’t finish a project or can’t find the information you’ve been tasked to find, you need to try harder. When it comes to your goals, whether they’re health and fitness goals or career and life goals, you need to ask yourself if this is what you really want. If the answer is yes, ‘can’t’ just doesn’t come into it. Are you willing to invest time and energy in this project? Sometimes, the idea of having our own business seems so glamorous that we forget that we may have to say no to happy hour invites just to stay home and work on our project. This is a full blown job that takes up time and effort.

2. You’ve got to be strict

Honestly, a business doesn’t build itself. Which means you might not have a social life for a while, and you might annoy your friends by bringing your computer to every brunch date. But you have to be strict with yourself. Hard work means imposing deadlines, and work hours, and sticking to them. It means no excuses, and sometimes it means sacrifice.

3. Stop talking and start doing!

It’s just as simple as that. Really. We cloud our minds with the ‘what ifs’ and trick ourselves into procrastinating because we’re fearful of the outcome. Don’t. Sometimes, all it takes is just gritting our teeth and diving into the workload. Once you get into the groove, you won’t realize that you’ve spent four hours on your project! What’s really great is the high that comes when you’ve achieved your goal for the project, you’ll be grateful for not endlessly scrolling on Instagram or accepting that dinner invitation. It’s all worth it.

  1. So true about the sacrifices you have to make. I’m lucky that my temp job leaves me with excess time, but my friend just started a youtube channel and is commited to releasing a set number of vids a week. She now has to juggle the hours of editing and her full-time job and is making sacrifices in her social life.

  2. You are so right, Carissa! If I could add one more piece of advice it would be to try to solve a problem. If there is someway to improve on an aspect of your daily routine, try to do that. Chances are your solution will be helpful for many others, too. Your intention to be helpful will be emotionally fulfilling and it may end up being financially rewarding as well.
