The Three Step Plan For A Minimalistic Life

It’s the 21st century and we have too much of everything, we’re busier than ever, with more opportunities and more distractions than ever. More choices, more options, more things to fill our shelves with. It can be overwhelming, and trying to cut back on these things can be even worse, so if you’re looking embrace minimalism here are three simple steps to pave the path towards a simpler life!

Step One: Identify
Identify why it is you want to live a more minimalistic life, for me it’s because we packed up a whole flat’s worth of stuff into one room and there’s just clutter everywhere. It could be to avoid spending too much money, to eat cleaner, or to make time for the things that matter.

Step Two: Plan
You’ll have to do some planning before you leap in and start throwing stuff away, what areas of your life need cutting down? If you want to create a capsule wardrobe check out Project 333 for a first-timers guide on using 33 items of clothing for 3 months. If it’s about diet, identify the simple items that your body needs and work them into a meal plan for a month at a time.

Step Three: Action
Start off with a section of your house or room that is completely ‘decluttered’, keep it that way for as long as possible. Organise your clothes into three piles, love, like and loathe, store them or give them to charity accordingly and stick to your favourite staple pieces. If you’re ready to throw things away identify duplicates and bin them first and then go through and identify things you’re holding on to unnecessarily, it’s hard but anything that isn’t really sentimental should go to make way for new memories, objects and some much-needed space!

Have you taken any steps towards a minimalistic life? Let us know how it’s going in the comments below. The planning stage takes slightly longer and is the hardest part but once you start getting rid of things or giving them to a good cause it’s amazing how much more breathing space you have! 2. I started working on my capsule wardrobe in the Fall, and I am really enjoying having less choice. It makes getting dressed easier in the morning, and helps me really define my style with these 33 pieces.
