This Evening Routine Will Help You Wake Up With Glowy Skin

@alissajanay

Your skincare routine is entirely personal to you and your skin. There are hundreds of products, routines, and tips for getting perfect skin, but at the end of the day only you know your own skin and what you really need. You probably have areas of concern, things you’d like to improve, and products you swear by. But there’s one thing everyone can agree on. Having glowing skin when you wake up is the dream. Glowing skin is a testament to how healthy you are, it means you’re hydrated, you’ve had enough sleep, and your life is in a good balance.

So if you want to wake up fresh and glowing, there’s a daily routine you should try, you can use the Getting Stuff Done planner to stick to this routine and edit it based on your own skin.

PREP STEP

EDIT YOUR ROUTINE

There are some things you need to do if you want to have glowing healthy skin throughout your day. You can’t just rely on a skincare routine to help you look (and feel) your best. Instead, you should make sure that everything works together. First, you need to look at your diet, the more healthy choices you can make the better. Good fats will help boost your skin from within. Avocado and sweet potato are great for your skin, while sunflower seeds promote glowing, youthful skin thanks to being rich in vitamin E.

Likewise, you should drink enough water (at least five glasses a day) and try to work out at least once a week. Wonder where that post-workout glow comes from? When you get your heart pumping from aerobic exercise, your skin receives a good dose of oxygenated blood. Your skin also starts producing more of its natural oils, helping skin look healthy and naturally moisturized. If you make sure your daily routine includes those essentials, your skincare routine will just enhance all those efforts, giving you glowy dewy skin.

STEP ONE

THE MAGIC ‘S’

Serums are filled with moisturizing ingredients that can help your skin appear glowy and hydrated. But they aren’t exactly moisturizers in the traditional sense of the word. Serums are usually applied before moisturizer, they’re a different weight so permeate the skin differently and don’t need to be as rich. They won’t lock all the good stuff in, either. If you’re truly after glowing skin, look for a serum with Vitamin E or Hyaluronic acid.

Our favorites are Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Hyaluronic Marine Hydration Booster and The Body Shop Vitamin E overnight Serum. Victoria Beckham swears by her serums so much that she’s often spotted putting them into a clear bag for travel when she’s jet-setting. It’s the key to waking up with glowing skin.

STEP TWO

HYDRATE LIKE HELL

While you’ve used a serum, there are other ways to get the glow back to your face. Personally, I used a Patchology mask the other day and my skin has been clear and glowing ever since. The trick is to look for masks that contain natural ingredients and essentials that are known to boost the moisture in your skin. There’s nothing like putting on a sheet mask before bed. The right one will help you wake up feeling hydrated, glowy, and healthy.

An extra boost of hyaluronic acid can’t hurt, but you can also grab a mask that contains aloe vera to soothe your skin and boost that glow.

STEP THREE

GET YOUR GUA SHA

Gua sha is a traditional East Asian and Chinese technique used to boost circulation. A close cousin of the jade facial roller, this technique improves circulation and creates glowing, smooth skin. Studies on this simple one-minute facial massage have shown that this simple daily ritual improves microcirculation by up to four hundred percent. Which is pretty incredible! It reduces wrinkles, rejuvenates, tones, and smoothes skin. It’s also been found to reduce dark circles, define jawlines and boost collagen.

Gua means scrape and sha means sand, and this practice has been used for thousands of years. The tools used in gua sha practices range from a Chinese soup spoon to an animal bone and horn, to rose quartz gemstones. It’s literally like rubbing your way to healthier, glowier skin. To make sure you’re using the right tools for the job, it’s best to go for a Gua sha made of jade or quartz. Aside from looking beautiful on your dresser, this green stone is revered for its cooling properties. Apply a facial oil before your massage, and work away from the center of your skin. This one made of Rose Quartz is a good starting point.

STEP FOUR

SUNSHINE IN A BOTTLE

Antioxidants will help you get that glow that might be evading you if everything else has failed to get you that gorgeous glow so far, you need some Vitamin C. Lady Gaga, rumored to have the best skin in the industry, swears by vitamin C serum for getting glowing, hydrated, and clear skin.

She actually uses Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum, so if it’s good enough for Gaga, it’s good enough for us. You can read her full skincare routine here.

STEP FIVE

GET RICH QUICK

We’re talking about rich creams. A rich night cream will lock in everything you’ve done and help your skin look glowy and hydrated. Elemis’s Pro-Collagen Marine Cream is a favorite in the CGD LONDON office, it’s rich and hydrating and will make sure you wake up with clear, glowing, and hydrated skin.

Another great night cream comes in the form of Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream, with over 9K five star reviews, this is a good alternative that’s not super expensive. Lock in all your hard work and get ready to wake up with glowing skin.
