You’re not alone, I’ve been there so many times. Hunched over the laptop, tweaking just one final thing on my personal website. Trying to make my portfolio look amazing, scratching my head over whether I should start a blog or not…I love playing with design. If you want to improve your website I’ll give you some tips that will help you build your business the right way. Take it from someone who knows all too well about making mistakes, no one gets it right straight away, hell I’m still trying to now!
Start by learning what people want
If you’re not the kind of person who wants to take hours researching your market and the psychology behind why certain things are visually appealing, we’ve done the hard work for you. In the first section of The Ultimate Blog Plan, there are strategies and worksheet exercises to help you build your very own brand. Find a name, logo, colors, and fonts that suit you and figure out how to design a website that gets people excited!
Aesthetics
We all love visually appealing things. If anything we are suckers for it! The look of your website will tell your readers anything they will need to know about your brand and whether they like it or not. When I’m on a website that looks cheap I come off of them because I don’t trust them. If you want your readers to trust you then it’s just not about content, you need to excite their eyes. Draw their attention with visuals and guide them. You don’t need a fancy web designer to come in and do this for you, for those on a budget put in the research and do it yourself. Once you know how to do craft a website it will be second nature for you. But you must know your brand inside and out and stick to it religiously!
Understanding the market
Ok, so you think you’ve got an understanding of the market and what people like – that’s great, but that’s good for today and not tomorrow. The market changes constantly. What people liked yesterday they don’t like today. They’re onto the next best thing and you either have to move with them or influence them and social media plays a massive role in this. So if your website isn’t working as well as you would like it to then you have to re-strategise. And that means re-thinking your social media strategy and how you should be more consistent and frequent with it. Schedule meetings where you put in a lot of research and look into other websites and how they’re smashing it. It’s part of your business now so if you want to smash your goals make sure you’re always on top by anticipating changes and reacting to them effectively.
Is it mobile friendly?
It’s great if your website looks amazing on a computer but in this day and age, it’s all about the mobile. Think about it, do you spend more time looking at websites on your mobile rather than you do on your laptop? Because when mobiles are glued to our hands we use them for literally everything. So if you’re wanting to set up an amazing blog you’ll be hoping people be reading your articles on their phones on their commute. No one cracks out a laptop to do their morning reading unless their sneaking in a look at their desk. So make sure your website looks just as great on a mobile friendly version and see the results!
